Fun fact, if you have a coke vending machine and add a Pepsi vending machine next to it, your total sales will more than double on average. The reason that’s thought to cause this is that giving a choice eliminates the choice for many people between something and nothing. So with just a coke machine, the person has two options, coke or nothing. But with a Pepsi machine as well the way a lot of peoples brains subconsciously think the choice becomes coke or Pepsi. There’s no longer a nothing option, at least for the people who were considering buying a drink in the first case, so sales actually increase, and increase more than double of just having one machine.
