So just a quick introduction to KARA, the first group that got me into Kpop back in 2009 and also my bias group throughout their active years.

KARA debuted back in 2007 under DSP media, the same year as Girl’s Generation and Wonder Girls.

They were known as the big 3 girl groups in the year of 2007.

The first line up was Gyuri (Leader, Lead vocalist), Seungyeon (Lead vocalist), Seunghee (Main vocalist) and Nicole (Lead Vocalist, Main Rapper and also Main Dancer).

However, they didn’t gain recognition for the first year during their debut. It was not until a year later, when Seunghee left and they had Hara (Lead Dancer, Face of the group) and Jiyoung (vocalist, maknae) joining and making the group a 5 member group.

They switched their concept from being powerful-girl crush to a cuter-brighter kind of concept.

They began to gain recognition in the year of 2008 and in 2009, it was the year in which they got a breakthrough.

KARA achieved their first ever 1st place in music show with the song ‘Honey’. In the same year, they had another song ‘Mister’ or ‘Mr.’, a B-side song, which got their fame skyrocketed. The song is known for it’s catchy melody and also their signature move, the butt dance (you should check it out)!

In 2010, they debuted in Japan and instantly gained fame and I would say they were the most famous Kpop girl group in Japan at that time. Their popularity kept rising through out the next couple of years with their continuous Japanese releases.

In 2011, they released this song ‘Step’ and this would be their second hits of all times which again pump up their popularity and make their stand in the Kpop scene.

Later on, in 2014, Nicole and Jiyoung left KARA to pursuit their own dreams. In the same year, DSP held a audition programme having 7 trainees to compete for a placing in KARA.

Youngji was crowned the winner and was added to the group having the maknae and vocalist position in the group. Youngji started promoting in the same year of 2014 and also 2015. Youngji’s popularity skyrocketed immediately.

Unfortunately, the line up changes and with their new releases were not as well received as they used to be as a 5 member group.

In 2016, Gyuri, Seungyeon and Hara left the group and the company. Youngji was the only one left in DSP media. The group was not officially disbanded but inactive for over 6 years.

In late 2019, Hara committed suicide and passed away at the age of 28 due to depression following her best friend Sulli. She was the most popular member in the group and she was one of the top female Kpop artist during her peak. She’s my bias in the group and my ultimate bias of all Kpop groups. May she rest in peace.

In 2022 during their 15th anniversary, the remaining members (Gyuri, Seungyeon, Nicole, Jiyoung and Youngji) reunited and released an album with the title track ‘When I Move’.

It was the first comeback in 7 years and it was also Youngji’s first comeback with Nicole and Jiyoung.

Kara songs are so entertaining and goood💘💘 their sound is definitely different from other groups back then, cause most of their songs were produced by Sweettune and they were known for being one of the greatest Kpop producers. They produced for them & INFINITE. If you listen to both of these groups, you will find that their sounds are so unique🩵
