QGIS Basics #48: Why does my Geoprocessing Buffer Distance show in Degrees?

What's up guys recently I have looked into the analytics of the channel, and noticed that the channel is shrinking. We have to get some likes on these videos. Subscriptions are good too, but the likes tell YouTube that this content has value. So I would love to get at least 100 likes per video. Most of the videos get a lot of views, but only a few likes. If you guys could help me out that would be great. I definitely have more content, but need to see some free action on your part to keep the channel alive and show YouTube and me that you like this content. Thanks so much for you that already hit the like button, and keep up the good work.

So guys I have gotten feedback from you on this video, I posted an update with more solutions to this problem. It is easier, and if you are using a newer version of qgis it will work much better. It is video #106 and here is the link to it:

 1. Formally known as the STCO or State county shape file can be found at

2. I find other data at:

If you have any questions about any information just leave them in the comment section.
If there are any updates to the sites, and things have changed please let me know. #QGIStutorials #QGISanswers #GISapplications in civil engineering #GISagricultureapplication in #globalinformationsystems #global information technology

I added the layer from scratch and it still showed degrees. Requesting another video with an actual solution to the problem.

If you are here, don't waste your time with that video, no malice intended but it solves nothing

Download MMQGIS plugin.
Click on it from the menu tab, select create, buffer and specify your parameters

It's great ☺️
Thank you

Processing -> Reproject layer and change into the right CRS then you go back to the buffer and it is in meters..

Hi Hal,
Thank you for the help, but, still give the "error " of degrees.
I create the layer:
1-Temporary scratch Layer
2-then save the layer as a Shapefile
important or open several times and diferents ways
3-last time like u post-it in this video, but still nothing the same degrees...
I saw in the videos (see again all the videos concerning the layers...etc... ), and the video
The type of layer that you created is a Polygon layer, and the meters come out, like me, but if you try to create a Point layer, The (degrees layers appear again.
rsrsrs...
The solution that i can see if the Buffer dont work (probably because of the errors of my QGIS), is to create a point layer, then duplicated and enlarge the size.
But in this type, i radius in not correct.
Thank you once again for the help.
Keep up the good work
