Just realized that 'Divine Inner Tension' sounds a lot like 'Divine Intervention.' I love their tongue-in-cheek use of religious themes. This seems to be another song dealing with 'magical thinking' and Donovan has such a genius way of approaching these topics with his lyrics.

Realizing that you can no longer convince yourself that you have explanations for things you don't understand (otherwise you would understand them; that's the point of explanations).

Every person, place or thing I've grown to doubt"
Once you leave magical thinking behind and start looking at things skeptically, you often feel the need to reevaluate everything (and everyone) you thought you knew to weed out all the falsehoods and delusions you've accepted. This can be a difficult phase of obsession and anger due to feeling mislead and lied to, especially if that was most of your life.

A literal example of superstition. Do all these nonsensical things in this arbitrary order to avoid some nebulous bad thing, as if it's really going to help.

Maybe a reversal of 'Jesus take the wheel'? Deciding to let what will happen happen and not obsess over trying to control everything or being able to explain everything right now. Just go with the flow and focus on the things that are obtainable, stop stressing over the things that aren't.

You hear a lot from deconverts how much better they feel free of cognitive dissonance and the aforementioned obsession with having any explanation for their questions, no matter how flawed.

Once you take a skeptical eye to the world, it's hard to put the genie back in the bottle and return to magical thinking.

"Once I let it go (I don't have to fear what I don't know)
I don't need control"
Accepting that "I don't know" is a valid answer and doesn't have to fill you with anxiety. It is one of life's greatest joys to learn something new, to discover that you were wrong about something and be corrected. You can't improve yourself if you think you already have all the answers. You can't explore the unknown if you think it's already been fully mapped. This message needs to be heard so much more in western society. There's so much negative weight put on admitting that you don't know something, when it's actually the most honest and humble position to take on a lot of things, and it opens up the doors for discovery.

0:41 i f*cking love the way instead of the usual frantic-fast paced guitars in the chorus aric and shane play but like they drop off and dig in the melody they create. Its slower but sounds deep. It gives the feeling of like shedding or dropping off things tht hold you back one-by-one which is one of the album's themes. idk if tht was entirely intentional but its real cool tht the guitars match the lyrics in tht chorus.
