I love this way you say "animal"! Your voice is so soothing to me. Recently, found your channel Eric. Your reading taste are light years different than mine. So, I am hoping to expand my future literary choices. New sub!

I'm going to listen to Leonard and Hungry Paul soon, fingers crossed I enjoy it (I haven't loved a book in some weeks). Panenka sounds great, too and I adore the cover. I'm planning on reading The Hummingbird, after seeing the raving review in the Guardian. The Heeding looks stunning, I may try to get my hands on it, esp since it's recommended by McFarlane. So many books that sound appealing. Indeed, the Spanish short stories book is stunning. So many books, so little time ...

Thanks for recommendations - what an enormous selection1! You describe the Russian book, Sterling Karat Gold and the The Heeding so well that I am really motivated to read them.

Dulce Maria Cardoso is an amazing writer. My mother tongue is Portuguese, so I am able to read her in the original. I think that everything she has written is great. If you never read her book "The Return, " I highly recommend it. It is translated. BTW Margaret Jull Costa is an amazing translator of both Portuguese and Spanish.

I'm interested in W3 by Bette Howland. Interested in mental health anti right memoir. But I also like when authors are rediscovered, especially women authors who were often dismissed in earlier days. I will look for that one and others that you mentioned. Aloha

I think Lisa Taddeo's first book was excellent fiction writing, I quiet liked it, but as a fiction, not as a non-fiction. I'm sure Animal will be better received now that she's putting the correct label on the tin.

The Hummingbird and An Evening with Claire sound very interesting. I read Dear Mrs. Bird which was delightful, and will definitely get Yours Cheerfully. Last week I finished The Frequency of Us by Keith Stuart which you talked about in a previous book haul. It was excellent. One of my favorites for this year.

I’m not usually a cover buy person but love hummingbirds and the book Hummingbird sounds rather good. I picked up Panenka in England recently and am really looking forward to that and I happened to read an excerpt from Violetta Among the Stars on the Words Without Borders website this morning but had to stop as it was so intense- a book I’d have to be in the right mood for but I’m interested anyway!

Can't wait to hear what you think of the new Ronan Hession book. I just finished Leonard and Hungry Paul and thought it was literally a perfect novel. I may have first heard about it on your channel, in which case -- thanks!

Long list, Eric! I am interested in Panenka, An Evening with Claire and Violeta Among the Stars which in Portuguese is called Os Meus Sentimentos (My Feelings). Title is much better in English. I shall go out on Monday and buy it. We in Lisbon are in lockdown over the weekend so will just have to wait till then, Thanks for letting us know about the Portuguese author. I'll let you whether I enjoy it. Am reading the Patrick Melrose Novels (on novel 3) and am overwhelmed...
