CHINA IS PRIORITISING REFORM OVER SHORT TERM ECONOMIC OUTLOOK - BRICE

Standard Chartered Bank Chief Investment Strategist Steve Brice says China is prioritising reform over short term economic outlook.

1. SLATE, READING (English): "GLOBAL MARKETS DECLINED AFTER A SHARP FALL IN CHINESE MARKETS. WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON THE CHINESE ECONOMY?"
2. STANDARD CHARTERED BANK, CHIEF INVESTMENT STRATEGIST, STEVE BRICE , SAYING:
"Well I suppose we are still in this what they are now calling the new normal of decelerating growth. So I think that's something that is likely to continue over the coming 12 months so we could even crack on a 4 years basis below that 7 percent number. I don't think it is too disastrous for China or for the global economy. But obviously it isn't good news and clearly they are prioritising reform over the short term economic outlook at the moment."
3. SLATE READING (English): "WHAT IS YOUR OUTLOOK FOR DEVELOPED MARKETS? ARE YOU OVERWEIGHT ON DEVELOPED MARKET EQUITIES?"
4. STANDARD CHARTERED BANK, CHIEF INVESTMENT STRATEGIST, STEVE BRICE SAYING:
"So yeah we remain bullish and overweight both the U.S. but also Europe and Japan on a currency hedge basis. The key rational for this is we still believe central bank policies are going to be very supportive. So in the U.S. we will see a Fed rate hike probably around the summer months but we don't see that really getting in the way the economic acceleration we are seeing there. Where as Japan and Europe are increasingly supportive of the economy through quantitative easing in Japan's case and that is also likely to come through in Europe. The key risks obviously to Europe and Japan are the currency may continue to weaken so that's why we prefer them on a FX hedge basis."
