Do This First:

To get the most out of your recording or streaming space, I recommend sound treatment including acoustic absorption panels. This is the single biggest way to improve your audio before investing in other gear. You can make your own, or I highly recommend GIK Acoustics as they manufacture some of the best quality panels available at an excellent value.

To my ears, the C1000S has a pleasing full character on most sources...not overly bright / brittle, but also not lacking detail. I would say this mic offers good value if you need to record a variety of sources. There is a lot of choice in this category, but the C1000S is definitely work looking at.

This is an absolutely fantastic review. The testing, the scenarios such as distance and boom-style, etc. Covered everything and jumped right into it. Amazing work.

I bought a used one years ago and have used it for amps, vocals and voice overs. It's been a great mic for everything. But lately I was wondering if I've been missing something just because it's the one I use all the time. Thanks for confirming that this is probably one to just stick with and be happy 🙂

Interesting to hear it for voice. I bought a P170 recently (my first decent mic), as an overhead mic, and although I know its not really designed for voice, I am very pleased with how it sounds. Now I had planned to move it around, depending on where I was filming, however unexpectedly today I found and bought a working c1000s very cheaply. I did wonder if it might sound the same as the P170, and even on headphones I can't tell the 2 apart, in your video, whereas the other makes of mic do sound different. Should save me a lot of trouble moving things around. Thanks 😀 👍

Any chance you will review the Rode NT3 mic? Would be nice to hear the NT3 compared to the M3 and the AKG C1000S.

I would love to know how these compare to the WA-84 from Warm Audio, and the UAD SP-1 pair - looking for drum overheads in a smallish mostly wood room, music a bit like The Jam, Sex Pistols, Green Day
