If you slightly loosen the refill plug before draining the oil, the oil will pour out more smoothly. I have an owner with a July 2021 made Kona EV (same drivetrain), reduction gear failure at 30, 000 miles and motor bearings failure at 12, 000 miles.

Great video Johnathon, nice to see a pollen filter easy to get at for a change instead of having to twist yourself in half to get it out!

Always open the fill port 1st! If you have a problem opening that... draining the oil 1st is not a good idea. From bad previous experiance!

Hah! I’ve just ordered a new e-Niro, and I just this morning happened to watch your 6000 mile review where you promised this one. Excellent timing!

Fabulous, similar work done by Cleevely EV mobile service on my drive, including new filter and wheels off (rotating front to back) and hands on brake inspection. And for almost exactly the same cost. James from Cleevely similarly coated all the exposed power terminals and lubricated the hinges. Didn’t need the brake tear down as we live a long way from any ocean. Brake pads similarly hardly used - car is in Eco mode, regen level 3 90+% of the time.

Because of this video when I bought a used 7 month old 2021 Kia Niro EV with 15, 500 miles and no maintenance, I insisted the Kia dealership near my seller do a used car inspection and change the gear reduction oil. They charged me far more than your shop and seemed to do far less work. My gear reduction oil was golden unlike yours, but I'd rather have replaced and it be golden than your dark oil and have not replaced.

Just about to take delivery of a kia e-Niro 4 years old 56000km. Keeping fingers crossed. My present car is a Mercedes e-class diesel automatic and a routine service is about 1300 euros at the Mercedes dealer I always use.

Still a really good price even with those extra tasks due to the environment you live in - Great video and clear info :) Any car in high dust/salt/pollution environments needs extra service so before any pro fossil drivers comment for an ICE car that invoice would probably of been an extra £150-£200 more due to the extra filters and oils that would of needed changing.

Another great video Jonathan, thank you! 👍
Very interesting to see that even having more done than is required by Kia for the first service the cost is very reasonable indeed. Fascinating to also see just what the mechanics did - I hadn't realised the brake assembly is quite like it is.
I decided to lease my Hyundai Kona over a 2-year period and opted not to take the service package that was offered by the dealer because I wanted to see what the actual service cost would be. I'm pretty sure it will be far less than the hybrid cars I had previously. The servicing will be done at a Hyundai dealer, just to keep things easy from the lease point of view but it was very interesting to hear that Kia will allow non-main dealer garages to carry out servicing and not void the warranty, which most other manufacturers will do.

I live in Nottinghamshire so no salty sea spray to deal with but I've noticed the brakes can sometimes grate a bit as they are getting almost no use due to me using level 3 regen all the time.

Well done, excellent service. I paid for my first service on my VW e-up here in southern Germany 180€ incl. breakfluid change but no pollenfilter exchange after 2 years and about 15.000km driven. In comparison to your KIA service I feel robbed....

After seeing the black oil coming out maybe a magnetic plug should be fitted at the next service.

Really enjoyed this, didn't know about HEVRA, my egolf is due it's 3year service and there is a HEVRA garage relatively close here in the south of Scotland. Thank you

The total cost for everything done is very low! A proper brake service, just the brake service here in Canada, costs 200$ CDN. Also, changing your reduction gear oil is a very good idea because it is the cause of problems that can lead to replacement of the reduction gear. Nicely done video. Thanks for sharing.

Say what you want about the Niro EV but it looks like a car that is easy to work on compared to some out there.

I was quoted £149 per service at a Kia dealership and that didn’t include any fluid changes nor replacement of cabin filter.
