I am from Karlovy Vary.
We have 12 of those springs...hot Water...with minerals...helping cure the digestion problems.
Trees - yes from the wind, usualy clean . Our town try to keep the the forest clean and nice ;)

People drink the water for medical reasons. Most spas in Europe have a specialty for which they have medical recognitions. Water is the most abundant. But there are also spas which have special air or even radiation which is thought to heal some ailments. You can get a prescription from a doctor if he sees a need to improve your health. Those would call for a three to four weeks stay at a spa and get some administrations like water drinking (slowly because not all taste nice, just like pills), massages, mud pack/mask, Kneippism etc. That made these locations famous. Especially the nobility went their. Not only for health reasons but also to meet each other. So you can say now that you have been at the same location as the former Austrian emporer. Therefore you saw all those elaborately decorated buildings. The prefix Bad means a spa. It is an official title for the location because some conditions are recognized as having a medical effect. Like e.g. Sulphur Springs, MT.
