LYRICS:
[Verse 1: Justin Vernon]
I can see you standing, honey
With his arms around your body
Laughin', but the joke's not funny at all
And it took you five whole minutes
To pack us up and leave me with it
Holdin' all this love out here in the hall

[Chorus: Justin Vernon]
I think I've seen this film before
And I didn't like the ending
You're not my homeland anymore
So what am I defending now?
You were my town, now I'm in exile, seein' you out
I think I've seen this film before

[Post-Chorus: Justin Vernon]
Ooh, ooh, ooh

[Verse 2: Taylor Swift]
I can see you starin', honey
Like he's just your understudy
Like you'd get your knuckles bloody for me
Second, third, and hundredth chances
Balancin' on breaking branches
Those eyes add insult to injury

[Chorus: Taylor Swift]
I think I've seen this film before
And I didn't like the ending
I'm not your problem anymore
So who am I offending now?
You were my crown, now I'm in exile, seein' you out
I think I've seen this film before
So I'm leaving out the side door

[Bridge: Justin Vernon, Taylor Swift & Both]
So step right out, there is no amount
Of crying I can do for you
All this time
We always walked a very thin line
You didn't even hear me out (You didn't even hear me out)
You never gave a warning sign (I gave so many signs)
All this time
I never learned to read your mind (Never learned to read my mind)
I couldn't turn things around (You never turned things around)
'Cause you never gave a warning sign (I gave so many signs)
So many signs, so many signs
You didn't even see the signs

[Chorus: Taylor Swift & Justin Vernon, Taylor Swift]
I think I've seen this film before
And I didn't like the ending
You're not my homeland anymore
So what am I defending now?
You were my town, now I'm in exile, seein' you out
I think I've seen this film before
So I'm leavin' out the side door

[Outro: Justin Vernon & Taylor Swift]
So step right out, there is no amount
Of crying I can do for you
All this time
We always walked a very thin line
You didn't even hear me out (Didn't even hear me out)
You never gave a warning sign (I gave so many signs)
All this time
I never learned to read your mind (Never learned to read my mind)
I couldn't turn things around (You never turned things around)
'Cause you never gave a warning sign (I gave so many signs)
You never gave a warning sign (All this time)
(So many signs) I never learned to read your mind
(So many signs) I couldn't turn things around (I couldn't turn things around)
'Cause you never gave a warning sign (You never gave a warning sign)
You never gave a warning sign
Ah, ah

This song is just fantastic…not being a part of her target audience I never really listened to much of Taylor. This song though has made me appreciate what an incredible artist she really is…

This song has helped me with my divorce. I was lost and broken and the way we'd get back together and break up again, was killing me. Deep down i knew it was over after 28 yrs being together. The raw emotion and honesty in this track is unmatched. It took me 2 years to make it through this song dry eyed. Thank you Justin and Taylor fort this heart piece of work.

Damn this song reminds me when my husband and I went through a huge break up before we got married. When we broke up I dated some else and he knew. But that relationship didn’t feel right, so months later my now husband found our way back to each other. He’s my town (my home) 🥰. Just being real with y’all for no reason at all.

Someone needs to hire the maker of this video. It brings us back to when music videos told a story to go with the song back in the 80’s (like Aha’s “Take on Me”). Anyone can show a video of someone signing, but this is genius.

OMG! What a beautiful song and video. If she doesn't clean up at The Grammy's and The Brit's next year it will be a punch in the stomach to music fans. Watching from London UK.

Two movie stars madly in love.
This video is from his point of view, reminiscing about the young love they once had before becoming stars of the screen. They then years later both end up working together starring in a movie where they reignite their love for each other. He is married and understands the pain and hurt he will cause her, knowing he can’t leave his wife. This video captures his internal thoughts and pain of how much he loves her. At the end, he realises it is her all along who had his heart, but he is too late as she drives off heartbroken and empty

I lost my grandfather yesterday. I know what the song is about but at this point in time the lyrics hit different. They tell the story of what it's like to lose him. Not knowing the last time I seen him was the last time. I've listened to this song the last 2 days probably over 200 times.

Went out and bought the album just for this one amazing track but landed up thoroughly enjoying the rest anyway. The sound production (whoever worked that board deserves an award) was out of this world. This stands out as something exceptional. Absolutely love it

This will be a classic, fantastic. The way the vocals work so well together, and the lyrics are so catchy. The melody of the main riff is beautiful ❤️
