Why I Don't Use 'Quality of Life Mods'

Most of them are okay, but if you want me to get more specific, I have a video on that already:

A quick elaboration/remake of my last Terraria video. Also a new format entirely which should allow me to create videos much faster.
Oh and I also missed a t in my username lol.

Music is "The Step Below Hell" by DM Dokuro

How bad is this video on a scale of garbage to trash?

In the end it all really does boil down to personal preference.
What doesn't is the lack of an end screen

Modded terraria with qol mods is a lot different than without qol mods. Usually, the only mods I would use would be Where's My Items and smart doors, because I like to keep all items I get which means I need a lot of storage. Without most qol mods, modded terraria feels like vanilla terraria, but just with more, instead of a more enjoyable experience.

Ok so I disagree with this video. I did with the previous one too... Although I don't disagree with everything... Some mods that you called as cheating in the previous video I agree with... For example antisocial... I use quite a bit of quality of life mods but not to give myself an advantage or get items like halibut cannon (or similar) very easily. I use quality of life mods so I don't waste my time on pointless things, like building npc houses or arenas... I often do no hits of bosses, not only in calamity. If I had to manually build an arena for each of them I would probably go mentally insane. I never used reduced grinding which you often refer to in this video. Although I use mods like luiafk for infinite potions... You need 30 potions to make an unlimited one. If you're playing with calamity you can just summon the blood moon 3 times for blood orbs every like 5 hours... Which doesn't sound fun or exciting to me. I definitely think unlimited mana is cheating, that's why I never used it. Prison builder and arena builder aren't even remotely close to cheating in my opinion. For arena builder I usually have campfires disabled. I play terraria only to fight the bosses. Having to go an extra mile just to build an arena or to mine ores for few hours just doesn't sound interesting to me. I also often cheat boss summons using cheat sheet... Which yes is cheating... But having to get it everytime just isn't worth it... I also like how you never mentioned journey mode... Which can pretty much do all these things (the one from 1.4 and the modded one). Calamity and some other content mods add quality of life recipes on it's own. Like some accessories or rod of discord. I definitely think that if you don't have enough time or you're not skilled enough. You just shouldn't play at all. I saw many times on twitch people playing revengeance with antisocial and be like "oh it's already hard enough" like antisocial literally removes the difficulty revengeance provides. Making it pretty much pointless to have it at all.

I think saying “they make the game easier” as a flimsy argument. Reducing grind literally means make the game easier. I use a lot of items from Luiafk for example. The Skybridge builder, I use it 3 times and I don’t have to waste any more time making boss arenas. The whole “it makes it easier” part of it is a fact, not an argument. That’s what they’re supposed to do; make it easier for you to do x y and z.

After watching, I realize how many points I kinda agree with here, even though not really for modded Terraria (since I haven't played that much at all), but more for Journey mode in vanilla; after doing a playthrough where unlocking items and collecting materials is that much easier, and that you can have infinite of all materials and buffs at any time, just after getting a few of them to research; while it may be more "convenient", it doesn't feel less annoying, and it certainly doesn't add to the fun; for example, defeating bosses doesn't feel very satisfying at all, even on the hardest difficulty; since it was just that simple to obtain the best armor/accessories available; and of course as you said, you get more satisfaction doing it without the highest-quality gear; especially as it's gear that either requires a lot of grinding, or mods/tools to reduce grinding for them
Sure, you don't have to farm for boss summons, especially harder-to-get ones like for EoL, but overall I've enjoyed regular playthroughs a ton more than Journey playthroughs
(also to note, I didn't of course use personal power options such as godmode or reducing enemy spawns, since that is obviously just cheating and even less fun; but it also feels cheaty in a way to use research features on a playthrough)
In general, I like the idea of Journey, and it's a very good addition to Terraria; but unlike what some people I know think, I don't think it's suited or the most appropriate for a normal playthrough of the game
I know I pretty much changed the topic in this comment from those mods to journey mode, but it is sorta the same idea with enabling features that reduce grinding

I’m gonna disagree, I know that you’ve already addressed that everyone can play the game how they want, but I think you gotta put more emphasis on that, to put it short, everyone has a different bar set for what is cheating and what is not. While i don’t use potions much in single player play throughs, I will pretty much always get the best accessories, weapons, and armor for that boss, because to put it simply, I love that feeling of power I can have over bosses, yet it’s not overpowered, still takes time to kill these bosses in rev.

Just like everyone has their tolerance for what is cheating, everyone has a tolerance of how much you’ll wait. The more play throughs I do, the less tolerance I have, sitting at around my 30th PT on the server, and well that’s why I like some QoL mods, I simply don’t want to play a waiting simulator.

“Well don’t go for the best gear then”
I really hate the meta in games, that’s why I used to like summoner, that’s why I hate the tomislav in tf2. I often do dumb challenges that change up the game. With I’ve done sentries only, launchers only, short swords only, flamethrowers only, and well due to those being bad weapons they kill bosses sluggishly, sometimes max gear downy cut it and I have to go for potions, at which case I have to do... *fishing* ugh.... ew.... no. I’d rather get blood orbs through some super crazy farm or just buy the potions.

TL;DR everyone has their preferences, you like being challenged through limiting yourself, I like that but in a different form

When it come to quality of life mods, especially lufiak, i use them mostly because I prefer the combat and crafting side of terraria over grinding. However I do feel that the unlimited mana lufiak adds is blatantly cheating, along with some of the other stuff like unlimited stars for the star canon

If you’ve given up playing Terraria since cheats ruined it. Try turning all mods off and only selected mods(Thorium, Calamity, Split, Spirit, Awoken Elements, etc) and on expert mode since master doesn’t exist on 1.3.5

Im the type of person that gets burnt out if it takes to long to progress thats why i use qol mods

2:11 I feel like its also so that if people are really really struggling on a boss and they seriously cant beat it, you can get these upgrades/items in order to help you

if you remove the brewer and young brewer from alchemist npc lite, it immediatly becomes an actually good mod and not an cheaty one, as the teleporter potions will not win you the game and the jeweler gives away the temple traps wich by 1.3 standards from what i know is limited and not infinite

Hey brimstone can you make a video on bow 🏹 vs gun. In case I think bow win in every progression be side the oynix blaster pre mech boss skeleton prime.

Personally, I've used some of these mods like Luiafk. But it's because I've never used them before and I just want to see how they work

Most of Fargo’s mod eternity mode is mostly grinding

The argument that you dont have the free time is perfectly valid like just saying dont play this game if you dont have free time is stupid its baisicly saying hey if you dont have time to spend playing hours of this game than just dont play it even if you enjoy the game

And another idea of best class in each progression in terraria where class melt boss like deaduls strom and destroyer ranger class.

But hey I think and even i tryed that the phantom phionex is melted the destroyer with jester arrow and infinity piercing phionex less than 30 second on expertmode you can even do on master mode just go for the destroyer tall first where many segment spawn right after the battle start.

For Fargo’s mod all the quality of life parts or “cheat parts” I wouldn’t consider cheating because of how hard eternity mode is

Ok but like on death and revengence mode you kinda have to grind for stuff and im not sitting there for hours getting potions just to get them again like 2 hours later

It's "The Step Below Hell", not "A Step Below Hell".
