Some ps2 games have a type of fog that looks bad on emulation. I think it’s meant to hide the low draw distance maybe. Okage comes to mind. The first time I saw that fog I was trying to adjust my graphics for a while, and the fog never left lol

Ps2 games also have that empty town feeling a lot too. There were some constraints in the hardware. You can upscale some ps2 games and they look great too, however.

Like some mmo games from that era that are still going have received graphics upgrades to upscale, and they’re like a modern ps2 game, and I think it’s just great.

Ps1 games look pretty good too when being upscaled. I have been playing Gran Turismo 2 latley at like 8x resolution and I would say it looks pretty good for a ps1 game.

I do have to say though, with all of the settings that you showed in this video, changing the aspect ratio back to standard and checking the box next to "apply widescreen patches" makes the gameplay a little less stretched out in my opinion, at least for the games I play. Great video though!!

PS2 are awesome, I play them on my Odin 2 with aethersx2 at 1080p. Played DQ8 recently and my wife though it was a modern remake. She couldn't believe it when I removed the upscaling

I use OG PS2 hardware with the Retrotink 4K, the upscaler can deinterlace the picture with very good results

I buy preloaded batocera cards for my steam deck. PS2 games running and looking great on that Oled.

I like using the ps2 emulator on the series s/x. The series s is a powerhouse for emulation. Kinda surprised more people havent bought it as just an emulation machine, since it can go all the way up to wii and run the games at almost 100%

I might give this a try. I wish I could play my PS2 Slim, but the laser is burnt out and has trouble reading most discs. At least I can use it to rip the BIOS.
