Evviva l'Italia!

"Inno di Garibaldi" (Anthem of Garibaldi in English) is a well-known Italian patriotic song, linked to Risorgimento (19th century unification movement).
The lyrics were written by poet Luigi Mercantini (1821-1872), supposedly requested by Guiseppe Garibaldi himself. Music was composed by Alessio Olivieri.
The song itself gained a huge popularity after the unification of Italy, especially among Italian diaspora communities. It remained popular during World War One and even the fascist period, it was one of the few anthems of the Risorgimento not prohibited by the regime. On the other hand, it was adopted also by the resistance partisan so-called Garibaldi brigades and used by the radio station Radio Bari as the closing theme for the Italy combat broadcast.
During the 1948 elections, the song was used by Popular Democratic Front in its electoral capmaign.

"Our martyrs have all risen." This song expresses interesting lyrical sentiment.

Similar sentiment to the IRA - we wanted the English out of Ireland. Better to go wrong in freedom than right in slavery.
