Bucketlist #03 The Truth about the Bridge over the River Kwai. We stayed at the Felix River Kwai Resort that backs on to the river with wonderful view of the bridge.

My father spent 3 years as an American POW building the Burma-Siam railroad. He only had his tattered deck pants to wear. No shoes. No toothbrush. Six months prior to his arrival at Changi Jail, he was on a German raider badly wounded - declared legally dead by the war department. I am told that nearly 300, 000 men and women (prisoners and natives) perished in the construction of the railroad under the Japanese.

18 years ago I attended 2 old boys who were POWs there. My wife and I will be visiting in a few weeks and we will be paying our respects to all, those who died

Nothing better than being totally clueless and faking your way through a tour.

Very informative video. Planning to visit Thailand this year, and will take the trip to the bridge also.

The picture shown on 3:20min with the Japanese Officer has in fact nothing to do with the bridge. It was taken in Konkoita, 140km away when the 2 working units from Burma and from Thailand met and completed the line in October 1943. The story with the uniforms (4:10min) that the prisoners got just for the Japanese movie team also happended at that occasion.

The restaurant (5:20min) is indeed a very good choice. Comparativly decent prices and a perfect view of the bridge.

I just came back from there. Agree the Holywood film is inaccurate, but also some of the narrative in this clip. The prisoners were allied (American, Australian, British, Dutch, Irish and NZ). One of my Clan (Irish) is buried there. My old man (now deceased served with RAF in Burma (Myanmar).
