After riding with my son several times, I was seriously considering the possibility that is 2021 KTM 85SX had a higher top speed than my 2021 Kawasaki KX250X! We needed to test this!

There is a special joy of winding out a small bike vs. being 50% on a big bike.

I’m always impressed with how clean your bikes look in the garage.

I love that feeling of flying on a dirtbike and you just forget all your problems and your worries are replaced with adrenaline

The only way I can keep up with my kids is on a flat road haha

Top speed is simply a function of gearing as long as you have the power to pull the gearing.

It can if it’s the screamin Eagle edition. It’ll win by 6 or 9 seconds.

Great race! Maybe get your son on a 125 and I’m sure he’ll smoke you ;)

Super cool to start to involve the kids more. Great memories, great learning too.

Excellent Drone footage seeing the KX real him in too!

I've always felt that the mini manufacturers are really missing out on the off-road market by not offering enduro models below the 125 2T class. KTM did offer an XC version years ago, but if I recall, it really wasn't that much different from the 85 and 105 SX minis. Based on the recent boom of single track, hard enduro and hare scramble popularity, I'd like to see them give the same treatment and R&D to a mini version as they do the bigger bikes: lower gearing, suspension, larger tank, kickstand, maybe even a different head and a flywheel weight. It could even be a really cool project to promote via the Gas Gas brand.

Sure! If Danger Boy Deegan is on the 85 and I’m on my 1990 YZ250 and I have to go to work Monday morning.

Less than half the cc's and the 85 hung in there well for what it is....just proof in my mind how 2 strokes make more Power!

I raced professional motocross 60’s-70’s. Bultaco, Maico, Husky, Puch, Montessa, CZ, Jawa, and others. I raced Montesa 125 and CZ 400. The good ole days until Japan took over for the most part. I am older now. I bought a 2022 YZ 85 as I wanted to touch the ground. I wanted something less than 200 pounds as I weigh only 150, 5’7”. That is perfect for me. It rips. My friend has a street trail Suzuki 450 and the 85 wins like he is standing still
Until around 60 mph. The YZ 85 similar power to weight as YZ 125. I love 2 strokes. The smell and light weight. I own a Super Duke 1290r and a MV AGusta Dragster 800 rr Pirelli edition. I also have a heavy, slow Grom. I love my YZ 85

I'm impressed with thr KX. A kid on a modern 85 is a pretty wicked power to weight ratio.

Back in the day. We did it all the time. 80cc experts vs 125/250 experts/intermediates. Had a GP race end of day )race what you want, often finish top 5 in field of 25-30 big bikes. 90% rider, 10% bike.

An RM85 is way scarier to ride than a new 300. I’ve done them back to back

I can't go wide open like that, I'm always scared something mechanical is going to fail or break loose at speed. Probably because once my front fender came loose and jammed in the front wheel and laid my ass down in the street.

Man I got winded just watching your kid run for 2 seconds in MX gear. Had an ass kicker of a ride yesterday, still feeling it.
