Why does everyone hate Samsung Exynos? 🔥

If you read some posts on forums and certain corners of social media, it's hard to understate the antipathy towards Samsung's Exynos processors. Some phone enthusiasts really HATE these chips -- and more, to the point, the idea that they're paying the same as other Samsung customers, but, because of where they live, *their* shiny new phone runs a lemon of a CPU.

So with Exynos due to make a return in Europe and Asia on the Galaxy S24, we ask: Why does everyone hate Exynos?

Check Out XDA on Social Media.

I bought the S23 plus this year which is the first Samsung I've bought since the S8 plus, mainly due to them getting rid of those battery draining hand warmers called Exynos. I shall be returning to the opposition on my next upgrade if the Snapdragons disappear again, I don't want a second rate product because of where I live

The 2 problems they face is: 1. Even if it has the potential to perform better than Snapdragon, the Snapdragon will still be more optimised by devs. And 2. Even if they do make a decent chip, people aren't going to immediately become super excited. Just hearing the word "Exynos" really puts a lot of people off. Both of these problems can only be solved if they're good, and good *consistently* so it's going to take them years to turn things around, and they're fighting an uphill battle of their own making. I hope they do well, some added competition for Snapdragon means better chips and/or lower prices for us the customers.

The Adreno GPU in the Snapdragon was crazy fast compared to the Mali GPU in the Exynos chipset.

The thing that drives me crazy is the fact that they're deliberately making two phones that perform very differently from each other and still selling them at the same price. If they want to keep using their chip to gain insights and data about performance etc. for developing purposes, they should offer that model at a lower price full stop, or just stick to using ONE chip for all markets, whether it be SD or Exy. I won't be buying any other S Ultra until we have some serious results and equity between the two models. My S21 Ultra is literally unusable this summer, due to constant overheating and low battery life. It's a fucking joke

The problem is how Samsung chip manufacturing processes are infamous for producing chips that overheat(and thus consumes more power with poorer performance) no matter which chip you purchase(for eg nvidia 30 series graphics card) until they fix that TSMC will be in a huge lead no matter what....

Very interesting, I hope Samsung cracks the chip market finally but honestly perhaps they would be better served at the moment using "high end" exynos chips that almost but don't match snapdragon in their non premium phones. Almost flagship performance for the users, higher margins for Samsung but more importantly massive amounts of real world data to work out efficiencies and iterate until Exynos is a flagship level chip.

Something really painful about exynos also comes in the form of Tensor. Heats up like crazy, bad battery life and whatnot. And huge part of the blame goes to the exynos the Tensor was based on.

I remember back in Snapdragon 800, 810, 820 (samsung galaxy s5, s6, s7) era Exynos used to perform better than the Snapdragon.
I wish and want Exynos to succeed
Competition is always a better for consumers

Many consumers felt shortchanged because Samsung charged the same or more money for the inferior Exynos version. If it was cheaper, than snapdragon version, reflecting the actual savings Samsung got for using Exynos, people wouldn’t mind. Look at how popular the Galaxy A5x series despite using Exynos. Consumers want value for the money.

Very happy that I bought the S23 ultra with a Snapdragon in February - so I won't have to worry about any Exynos lemons for the next 4 years

Well it simply depends if Samsung Foundry has closed the huge gap with TSMC or not. I doubt it since it seems Samsung's 3GAP won't be ready yet

Hope they stick to Snapdragon... Europe ALWAYS pays more not "sometimes" so it's unfair we were previously stuck exclusively with the garbage edition and had to import actually decent phones...

Had an exynos based is S22 but traded it out early because of poor battery life and heat. So I was happy to hear they'd switched for the S23 - was considering an S24 next year. If it's back to Exynos though - probably not. Shame really

You could add that in Europe for example we had less for more the price were higher due to money conversion, higher local taxes etc that was really unfair, less power, more throttling, less battery. less optimisation.
And when it comes to a flagship price, some people don't know when they buy but Will eventually learn from competitors, geeky friends, hence feel betrayed.
Remember flagships changes every 12 months, when competitors blow away you specs a few months after the buy, and you're still paying you phone's plan for one or two bad taste in the mouth. Again we are talking high price flagship.
So if it exists somewhere else. then you must give something in return. law of commerce.
Samsung is a great company, they make great products very often, i hope that they understand that an Exynos even just on par With the Snapdragon would require, more gifts to consumers, and probably youtubers.

As much as I don't like the Exynos chips, I want Samsung to succeed with their Exynos push. We want competition on the market, not a monopoly. This will make Qualcomm stand down for a little esp on prices.

I have an S22 Exynos. And I don't really notice any issues with it. Battery last more than a day, everything works as expected. It is never hot and never freezes. I really don't know what people use their phone to notice the differences.

Let me briefly explain why Samsung will not be getting my money.

I do not agree to pay MORE for a phone with an inferior processor. Yes, I do say more because in most countries which get the exynos, there’s additional shipping costs, as well as lower currency.

So Samsung you can get stuffed!

Samsung doens't believe that both CPU are same level otherwise they would give the Exynos to Ultra, too. Exynos is for lower priced devices and countries which are not that important for them.

I hope Samsung releases two versions: A cheaper Exynos version (maybe $100 or so) and a regular priced Snapdragon version.

Exynos 2100 was a ray of hope after Exynos 990 fiasco, but Samsung needs a lot fo effort to convince the futuer buyer that they are not going to buy future Samsung with *infamous inferior* future Exynos. The result of 2200 was a step back after promising 2100.
