That Ubahn at Hauptbahnhof is relatively new. It wasn’t always so easy. With SBahn, yes.

As a person who lives in Berlin, I've actually always found the transfer from the U-Bahn to the S-Bahn very cumbersome at the main station. Most other stations involve a lot less walking and a lot less weird hidden corridors

It is not excellent. The station is built next to the river, meaning the north-south lines had to be in a relatively deep tunnel while the east- west ones were on a bridge. That necessitated the many escalators seen here needed to transfer between the lines (the elevators are painfully slow and are low-capacity). The U-Bahn is the terminus of line 5, and no other U-Bahn line connects to the station. Several key S-Bahn lines in the long-established north-south tunnel bypass Hauptbahnhof and require a one-station journey on S- or U-Bahn to reach them. The central bus station is also far away in Charlottenburg; there was no effort made to relocate it here when the station was built despite plenty of available land. Looks cool, though.

I only wish getting out of Alexanderplatz station with heavy luggage was as easy.

In many German cities, the way between the metro/"Stadtbahn" to the main station is amazingly short. I especially like how it's done in Düsseldorf.

Hey RMtransit! I live in Berlin, and I managed to catch the inaugural train journey from Berlin to Paris! I would be glad to give you some clips of it

The Underground (at least the U5) is amazing as it's so fast and the trains are so new. More convienent than the S Bahn through Alexanderplatz even.

Prague is the same. I was surprised as a Brit visiting the main station that you literally walk off the metro, up some escalators, and you’re in the main station. Here you always have to pass t through an underground ticket hall, scan your pass or ticket, then up more stairs before you’re out in the main station.

Great places to eat at that station too!

The german railway meme community (yes it exists) always makes fun about the extremely slow elevators when it comes to the Berlin Hauptbahnhof

Hannover is comparable, you come from the subway Tram to the lower floor of the station, where you can also find lifts, that go up to each platform

Love this train station. Best I’ve used in term of actual service and way finding. 4 levels. Siiick

How does "proof of payment system" work?

In the context of Berlin and Germany more generally, perhaps you could do a video about fare gates and ticket inspection. In Berlin there are famously no ticket barriers although there are random inspections and the inspectors have significantly greater powers than in other countries.

Proof-of-payment system relies on random spot-checks by inspectors, right or not? Dear RMTransit, do you think random spot-checks can be done in Asia?

Will you ever do a video about public transit in Frankfurt, Germany?

Los Angeles Union station is designed similarly.
