I think it's one of the curses of our times: being "encouraged" to keep up. For instance in the enterprise world, new technology is being released more often every year, new versions of the same tech (hardware or software) are release on a specific cadence. Why? Because someone has set the pace, and if you don't follow you get left behind. And when your income depends on it, that can become a burden, no matter how. much you enjoy the ride. What the solution? A complicated question of course, but in my view there are several perspectives:

1. I believe that the ones that follow through the educational system and try to make the best of it will have an easier time to learn and then apply in life when to push and when to take a break.
2. In the enterprise world it is common that you set a day with no meetings, or a break time where you do anything (as long it is not work related) and respect those, regardless of the urgencies or deadlines. You need to set the pace.
3. Perfect scenario: at some point we need to break through the material needs, and just try to improve ourselves. Maybe that will come easier with evolution.😁
4. As always when you struggle to do something, outside help always makes a world of difference.

Oh and the best productivity hack is accepting you cannot do everything 🤫

Every machine sometimes needs a break and a maintenance. We are humans and much more fragile. Don’t neglect taking the “maintenance” break, you will last much longer and with a good health!
Happy Easter!

Community (friendship) is so important. Don't do it alone if possible. The work will always be there and will always call you...but we were created to be connected to one another. Enjoy the journey! Love your content.

Thank you for sharing this story! I think you speak on something for anyone who is in that constant "grind mode." We never take a break or pause, and I feel you said something we normally don't say.

I feel the same compulsion to keep doing, doing doing. I'm trying to have a night off and I'm fidgetty and restless and feel guilty!!

Its very healthy to take a pause and figure out whats next. I recently did that after 25 years in the IT business, and now I am my own boss. If I dont feel like working on Monday, I will just block the day in my calendar and go for a ride on my bike, keep my youngest son home and visit a toyshop etc. Do what suits you and the family best, everthing else is secondary and those hours or days with the family are well spent.

This is it. Pressure. Pressure, deadlines... can kill creativity, can destroy relationships with friends, with sponsors, at the end even break familly. Anyway, all kind of work need to be seperate from regular of life. I always say "u can't make all of work but u can lose your health. When u lose health, nobody (no clients, no sponsors) will bring health back. So the best way to stay healthy, be creative and be ready for new projects is turn off phone at 6pm friday and turn it on in monday morning :)
No project is so important that it can't wait over the weekend. We need work to live but we are not live for work.

A 10 min meditation routine has helped me in the past. It's like hitting the off button. Helps slow the mind. For me it can help filter out the unimportant things and give more clarity to the "real" stuff. Speaking of real... loving the vlogs! Been doing that more myself. I've learned a lot from you. Thanks man!

Addiction is the relationship between effort and dopamine..
As a creator, we create a strong link between creating and dopamine..
The “issue” is, that our addiction is often being romanticized as PASSION! 🔥
But in fact it is an addiction on the same level as alcohol, drugs ex..
So the struggle is real, when we as creators try to relax and not create..
Passion is greate and inspiring, but we need to put more focus on the backside of that word.
I’ve been an addict to both alcohol and gambling, so my brain is seeking dopamine all the time..
I’ve switched my alcohol and gambling addictions to my creative passion addiction..
Better.. More healthy, but still an addiction that I have to constantly keep track on, so it doesn’t interfere with my relationships and so on..
Yeah.. Sorry.. Got caught up in this answer 😅
Keep reflecting and working towards a healthy balance 💙

Getting that project done, the video uploaded gives instant reward. Never skip the opportunity to make a memory though. That’s what will be with you for longer. Much love ❤️

I feel this. I have struggled with always thinking about the next thing and not fully being in the moment. The older I get, the more I realize that time is precious. Friends, family, and opportunities aren't guaranteed. Memories and connections are forever and life-giving. I wish I would have learned that sooner, but I'm very intentional about it now. I'm glad you're heading down that road. Be well, Peter!

Hey Peter, I know exactly how you feel, even though I work 9-5, but I also struggle with resting and I have this constant pressure to be productive and to do more. Personally for me, therapy is doing wonders as I learnt why I struggle with this and how I can make it stop - and this is why I cannot recommend therapy enough, I think it might really, really help you overcome this constant pressure. Take care!

Aw man, I've been a self employed business owner for about 20 years now, just getting going on this YouTube journey in the last few years. It is hard to make yourself take a break, but it's like putting fuel in the tank. I still struggle with it to this day. The drive is a blessing and a curse. It get's you where you want to be, but it makes it hard to enjoy it once you get there. Just have to remind yourself the work (the journey) is the fun part and that the goal will never make you happy. Good luck Peter!

I'm 63 and have been a full-time freelancer between ages of 23-46, then took a steady job and...kept freelancing. My job is in non-profit so I seldom feel like it's a burden, but I always need to do something. Can't sit still, finns inte på kartan😊. At the same time I try to relax by doing other stuff than usual. I'm not too good at it, so if it helps.. you're not alone.
But from this angle, I think you're doing great, the most important we always see you spending time with Alex, hope Amanda gets a share of you as well. I stopped touring when my kids were 9 & 13 years old, best decision that pays off now they're grown-ups. Cheers!
