If there are shoes in the room, I also recommend checking inside those as well...that's where I found my crestie chahoua hybrid after my cat broke the screen on top of his temp enclosure which is ultimately what allowed him to get out.

I wish I would have had this video a few days earlier! I just found my emerald tree skink after him being loose in my house, with my cats, for 8 days. I tried some other tips, but I ended up finding him because one of the cats chased him under the couch.

My BD was out for a few hours yesterday 🤦🏼‍♀️ She roams around my room when she wants to get out or when I'm cleaning her cage, which she usually always just walks around climbing on random things but yesterday I took my eye off of her for a minute to finish her cage I looked back to where she was and she was gone! I looked every where for her in all the places she likes to sleep outside of her cage no sign of her. We left the door shut came back home after a few hours, starting looking again and she was in the corner behind our dresser just curled up sleeping 😴 This is why I always make sure the door is shut if she does this I at least know she is some where in that room but that was the longest I couldn't find her. Just keep looking you'll find your animal eventually in the most random places 💕

Up until 2 weeks ago I thought, “How can anyone NOT properly close and lock enclosures”. Yeah well, it’s easy. Lmao! My BP, Darwin, got out of his enclosure because I thought I had locked it but………😂 It took me an hour to find him. The closet has two sliding doors that are HEAVY! They were closed. So I looked everywhere else. He was in the back, left corner of that closet. I don’t know how he managed to shove his way through those doors. So, look in closets!! Great video, Elle!🐍❤️🐍

This reminds me of the time I had thought my crested gecko escaped because I went to his tank to check on him and I noticed that the slide door had a just a little gap and I instantly thought that he had escaped. I looked through his cork and plants and everything but I couldn't find him. As I was getting ready to quit trying to look for him I saw a tail sticking up from the substrate, I thought that he'd had dropped his tail but when I moved the substrate I saw that he was burried underneath it. I knew that crested geckos liked to go on the ground sometimes but I didn't think that he would bury himself.

I just brought home an emerald swift yesterday. Last night, I went to check on her and didn't see her in the tank. I checked under every hide and piece of decor. Even though the door was still closed, I was convinced she must have run out when I opened it up to clean and refill her water bowl. I felt like a terrible owner and I was just praying I would find her safe before we move next month. I spent hours looking last night and I spent another 4 hours looking today. I had sealed off the room last night. I was walking past the tank while putting tissue paper around the floor as a noise trap and I looked up just in time to see some movement inside the tank! The little butt had burrowed into the substrate and just popped her head up to see what all the noise was about. I'm so happy she's safe, but she had me stressed.

Very helpful tips in this video though! If she had actually escaped, I think this would have improved my odds of finding her.

whenever my beardie is free roaming and i suddenly cant find him because hes so sneaky, i call him by his name which is " blaze" and i always say "do you want some num nums? " it sounds cringy i know but ever since he was a baby i called his wax worms " num nums" and he immediately knows lol. he always comes out of hiding when he hears me so its helpful lol. although most of the time he doesnt end up getting the wax worms, i do give them to him later on 😂

Thank you for this video! You are my favourite account! I got my first Bearded Dragon & she is SO active, curious, & adventurous. I am always so worried she will get loose while I am holding her. She doesn’t just rest on me like the internet says she will 😂 She is just a baby though so that may be why! This helps me realize all isn’t lost if she does get loose while I hold her!

I like the coin advice. I had a corn snake get out Twice. Luckily, he went to the same spot in a closet both times .

Happy Birthday Morty the skink! This is a great video! Adding my best tip, here's how I make a Heat Trap! Take a warming pad on a thermostat and put it in/under a Hide, by the wall or behind shelter, with a little water dish nearby. Especially in the place that following the wall brings you to, or the lowest part of your house like the basement. Check your Heat Trap every morning and evening, and one morning you might find your pet! They will be looking for the smell of water and the nice warm dark place to hide. I found a 12 inch house snake in a 2200 square foot house by doing this. EDIT: Ah you did mention this same strategy! Awesome!

I had a turtle I was nursing back to health after it was hit on the road and it escaped the plastic kid's pool I was keeping it in as it was a rather large size and it was temporary. It was loose in my storage room for 2 days before I finally heard it scratching the wall as it climbed a stack of boxes it'd been hiding behind/inside. 😅

My ball python Zeus got out one night after I forgot to put the lid locks back on after refilling his water and I didn't notice until the middle of the next day. I was so upset (have 2 little, ill-mannered dogs) I was crying and calling his name while looking for him and within an hour of looking I found him about 3 feet from my usual spot where I sit and hang out with him, looking at me as if he was saying "Don't be upset. Here I am."

Very beneficial video. Thank you for making it. 🤘🏻😊

Thank you. I am new to having geckos. I have lost the same gecko twice now. The second time, he was out for 5 days. Finally found him but not surprisingly he lost his tail, which we found a day before the gecko. He panics and has ptsd but he came to me when he was safe back in his cage. he had been out so long it's completely good we found him when we did. I was beginning to lose hope. It was actually the dog and cat that let us know where he was, and he was moving very slowly. It's been two days now, and besides the truma, he seems to be doing well.

first time loosing my baby king snake, found him a week later in my basement he found old cable holes and I feel so lucky that he safely made his way down to the concrete floor. I have sense plugged all holes in floors & walls.

I thought my BP was out today. Found him in the background wall tunnel he had not gone into yet since his cage was just finished.😮😮😮 The panic was unbelievable!

Great advice!!! My 3rd crested gecko jumped away the first time I went to handle her. She freaked out and went behind the fridge, then under my kitchen cabinets. Luckily, we got her back that evening. My chahoua jumped away and under my gecko rack. Got her back quicker than the crestie. I used to handle her daily, now I leave the sticky footed geckos alone. Really wish I had a reptile room. 😞 love this advice on finding lost animals!

That's such a good video 💪 be careful though with lowering the temperatures or something. Sometimes they are at a place where they can not come out anymore, especially when you left food for them and they didn't take it in the night. My Bullsnake ended up stuck behind a spare mattress wedged behind my bed an he could barely move, so it was even hard to hear him. I realised something went quite wrong after he didn't take a rodent two nights in a row. I laid in the dark for 2 hours and heard a weird slow scratching, than I ripped apart everything that was in this side of the flat and there he was. The poor guy was very afraid (he was also a juvenile at this time) since then I can come closer even from above, he never hissed at me again. (Of course, this is not a recommended way of taming a snake 😅)

My leopards have escaped more than once when I'm not there. I have found them on the ground each time (ie they don't climb). I start at the tank and look out from there. I also found one under the fridge before, lured her out with food. Seems to be a popular spot. Be careful and patient moving stuff so you don't squish them. For my Williamsi gecko do NOT take your eyes off of them. You have to use what's on hand to get them. They are, small, fast, climb high and are more adventurous moving around. It's an absolute emergency to get them back before they vanish. I hate opening his cage lol and I try to never do it alone.
