Was the Moskva comparable to a US Navy cruiser? #shorts

The Moskva was part of the “Slava” class of cruisers, which were designed for one job: To Destroy US carrier battle groups.

For that job, it was given 16 very large missiles, whose huge angled launchers are the trademark of the class.

The Ticonderoga class, the only remaining US cruiser class, isn’t really very capable of anti-ship operations at all. While they are equipped with 8 harpoon anti-ship missiles, the job of this cruiser is to be an air defense platform to protect the carrier.

US doctrine absolutely relies on air power, which means carriers, and that means the primacy of protecting those carriers.
