Reason 5: All-in-ones save space
Reason 4: All-in-ones take up less space

Why would I want a Laptop without a battery?

There are touchscreen monitors that you can plug directly into a desktop.

5&4) They take up less space until you start adding all the external drives you need to use to supplement the non-expandable drive space in all-in-ones. Then there are the cables to interconnect these necessary external devices.

3) The people I know that move their AIOs around also tend to send them into the shop to replace cracked screens on a regular basis. If you need to move a lot, stick to a laptop.

2) You are really reaching to try and fill out this list.

1) Not on your iMAC. And there are touch and pen screens available for towers.

Good for use in the kitchen and for kids. Great touch screen experience its like a big tablet.

For your first two points, Space Saving, firstly you could get either a mini-ITX/micro-ATX sized case which would take up much less room than a mid-tower or full-tower case, or hell you could get a tiny desktop NUC or an HDMI NUC and you are done. For cable management you could just get a wireless keyboard and mouse and take an extra 10 minutes to cable manage you PC and wiring to the display. For your third point of you being able to carry it, many small form-factor cases such as mini-ITX/micro-ATX offer carrying handles, that I know of at least. Or if you have a NUC, those things are really small and easy to carry or move around. For your minor point on the aesthetics there are badass looking gaming PC's that look crazy amazing, liquid cooling, full RGB lighting, or there are simple "silent" PC's that are flat looking, I'm basically saying they look stealthly, not many jagged parts, a billion and a half screws easily visibile, etc. For your media center point, yes I have to agree with you there, but a NUC or something like a Chromcast, Apple TV, a Roku, etc, work as well. For you final point, touch-screens, I have to agree with you there, I've only seen All-in-Ones, convertibles, and laptops have touch screens. Interesting video Dave!! Though I will have stick with my desktop and laptop set up.

I feel like an idiot buying in all in one pc, cause I know that Desktop PC's are better than All in One PC's.

if you're someone who isn't a computer expert but just need a simple computer to get stuff done, I'd say an all in one is perfectly fine for you. Obviously it depends on the type of work you are doing but if you're not doing anything intensive, a less cluttered, simpler AIO machine is probably better for you. That being said, you can still build a relatively compact tower PC with better performance as long as you're willing to do the research and work. Building a PC isn't as complicated as it sounds. It just takes a bit of research. I don't think one is 'better' than the other. It's just a matter of preference. An AIO is priced higher because of the higher cost of manufacturing.

I agree with both postings. As a retired Unix System Administrator, and therefor a "ProSumer"  who has lived through all of the hardware "revision" since 1972, I have had both (all 3) environment at home, usually at the same time. (The third environment being the Laptop and now Tablet.) I have both built my own Windows box and been through virtually every model Apple has offered.

Currently my systems are a 2010 27 inch iMac, an iPad Air, and an iPhone.

I have always proselytized the concept -- when buying a new computer -- buy the "top of th line" available at the time. Or if money is an issue, wait until Fall when the new models come out and buy last years top of the line at a discount!

Interestingly, I have had more component failure issues with my custom built Windows box (a Tom's Hardware design) than with the iMac. I happen to also have a collection of external disk drives -- both for redundancy and performance issues. Historically, all were FireWire 800, but now that I'm retired, I'm drooling over the latest crop of Solid State Drives, which are approaching my price/performance range. My primary usage is gaming and have been a LOTRO player since launch back in 2007!

Interesting,

till now I thought that the only good way to go is a desktop.
But recently I came up with the thought, what is against a all in one?
Because I'm feeling that I don't need that much computer power for the everyday tasks.
And I like it to keep everything clean and tidy.

So a all in one could be a solution?

I've owned two iMacs, the potential for hardware failure is enough of a reason I'll never buy an all-in-one again. Too damn difficult or expensive to fix. (among several other reasons but that's my top one).

All in ones are beautiful and very neat. If you're not going for raw power they're a great option. Design and space wise they are a clear winner. That said I have a monster tower and monster 4K to.... but it's no way nearly as pretty.

As a person working in IT support in a University i like much more the all in one computers. First they use less power and when you have over 1000 computers in a building that is a huge bonus. Second these days tech is super fast where an laptop i3 and and ssd with 16GB of ram can do all the things an avrage work computer needs. It can open many excells, have a lot of chrome tabs open, use external network storage. They are super clean when installed, little to none cables, much more conviniente for cleaning as well since they all are the same unit and to be honest they are super repariable. Compared to laptops they are super eazy to open and fix. Since they are big they dont suffer that much from overheating.

Dont get me wrong desktops are more powerfull but are bigger, require a monitor and a lot more cables. For an AIO i run 4 cables: power, ethernet and mouse and keyboard. Super elegant. They also have built in BT where i can just connect theme to the tv directly if in a regular classroom or onto a projector in amphetherers. Yes i do understand that i can get an external adapter but trust me this is the ultimate solution

Great to see you both working together... I'm subscribed to both of you and am a fan of both of you as well. :)
I understand your point of view and for the reasons you stated, I can agree about those reasons for a good feature(s) RE: All-In-Ones, But,
1) As a long time fan of tinkering, and having considered All-In-Ones, here's my take:
All-In-Ones
a) Can't come close to the versatility of a Desk Top...
b) Cooling options for Highly Powered Needed Tasks aren't as viable...
c) Upgrades RE: Work aren't as possible when needed...
d) Touch isn't really a functional aspect of a person's normal body function in the position of a All-In-One position... I believe even Steve Jobs talked of this misfunctionality of the 8.1 ideas from Microsoft, etc... RE: being able to use one's hands, a stylus, etc...
There's more, but for the sake of brevity, I'll stop now... on This...
I do like the idea of All-In-Ones, just not the actual functionality and power that a Desk Top can give me for many reasons.
A Fan of Yours As Well,
Wolfy :)

How often do you need to move either one? Not often at all.
