Hi!
I write from Italy and have only recently discovered the channel: extremely pleasant and useful.
My decades-long feeling of sympathy and affinity for HPL has meant that I recently wanted to pay homage to him by undertaking the integral reading of his works in English (having always been a little dissatisfied with Italian translations). It will be challenging but the knowledge of the language will improve :D
I got hold of the fine volume by Barnes & Noble and the three by Hyppocampus: thanks for the reading advice and good continuation.

These just sold out on the publishers website. There’s supposed to be a last hardcover coming, hopefully soonish. These are the definitive HP Lovecraft books for sure, and I love my set.

Wow, that’s some really interesting historical context. Obviously, I have heard you talk about Joshi before for his discussions of lovecraft, but I didn’t realize that he reconstructed Lovecraft‘s work like that. I guess when I finally get around to turning seriously to more of lovecrafts work, I’ll probably seek out this edition. Thanks!

Enjoyed your HP lovecraft podcast Michael. I have read a few of his stories, but want to read more of his work

I love these editions as well. Really wish Hippocampus would do more hardcover sets like this than they do.

Joshi certainly put in a lot of work. I feel guilty as I still haven't read any Lovecraft, but I've more than made up for it by reading Howard and Edward-wagner 😉

Hi Michael! Great video as usual! I have these three books, and they are great. I wish Joshi had included a short introduction to each story, as he actually did in the B&N edition. Also, there is the complete Revisions tome mising. It was released in paperback only because there were copyright issues with some tales, but Hippocampus has announced the publication of the hardcover complete edition not a long time ago, so ... fingers crossed! Cheers!

Ah yes. I have those Arkham hardbacks, the Penguin paperbacks and ebooks of the variorum edition. I remain disappointed that Hippocampus Press haven't done an ebook (and only a paperback) of the revisions/collaborations cos that means some major things are missing. Indeed, I wish Hippocampus would do more electronic versions of their books, particularly the volumes of letters, which I'm sure they wouldn't have any copyright issues with, or other problems of that sort... it's nice having physical copies of these things, obviously, but I am at that stage of life where disability and age have combined to make physical books increasingly hard for me to hold and read, so Kindle is how I generally roll.

Brilliant video - I didn’t realise the stories had been edited like that.

Thanks for the video, you rally helped to clear thing up for me on the different Joshi versions out there. Question: do you have volume 4? I see it listed on Amazon, and it claims to have been printed in 2017, but Amazon says it is currently unavailable. Apparently it has his collaborations with other authors in it. I cannot find it on the used market. In your black set printed by Arkham, do they have his collaborations with other authors?

You have a ton of H.P.Lovecraft books???
No!!!!
I have all of His stories, and have read them all, but I don't have as many different editions as You do. Though....every time I see a different one out....I do buy them. 👍
No matter what people think about Him....I still find it sad that He died without knowing what influence He had on Popular culture.
It always baffles Me how someone could be thought of as hardly 2 later after their death be such a huge influence on so many . 🤷‍♂️
We see this all the time.
Great Video Michael 👍😁👍

I have 3 books: the two "the new annotated" (Liveright) and "the complete fiction" (B&N).
My question is: should I still buy these "Variorum Editions"? I am only able to find them in paperback edition, no hardcover left.

Hello. I hope you can help me. This is the first time I've decided to buy a "variorum edition" about an author, in this case Lovecraft, specifically volume 4 since I only need his collaborative works to complete my collection. As I've seen in other videos explaining the concept of "variorum edition", a selection of certain texts or paragraphs that will later be commented on in a book, my question is, does this happen with the Hippocampus edition? That is, do they only contain fragments of Lovecraft's texts or is it the complete story? Thank you very much.

I’m sure you are exaggerating a bit when you say you have a ton of H.P. Lovecraft books (0:53). Probably more like 1, 800 pounds, tops. 😉
