Today I provide an update on all the issues noted with my Emira up to the current period including the 3 initial main problems of the Windscreen, Climate Control and Engine Cover….Now there are multiple issues of concern with Lotus Services stating that a £10k solution is required just for a simple broken thread!

What do you think about the Supercharger broken thread issue?

You have the patience of a saint putting up with all those issues.
Good to see the Emira lives up to the acronym Lot Of Trouble Usually Expensive!!

Lotus sources the supercharger from Edelbrock in El Segundo, California. It's their #1740 model and parts should be available from them direct. That complete supercharger direct from Edelbrock only costs somewhere between $5, 000.00 and $6, 000.00 USD. Of course, if you had to go that route, you'd have to swap the top cover with the Lotus cover for it to look exactly the same. Also, Whipple Superchargers, here in Californians, makes a much better supercharger than the Edelbrock that will fits the Lotus Emira as well. I'm fairly confident you could get the part you need for the Edelbrock supercharger direct from them.

Hello Rich, Now over 1 year with my Emira and no real issues. I had the no start issue and temporarily resolved it before the software upgrade by initially pressing the start button for about 5 seconds without pushing the clutch or brake pedals. The ‘systems’ then turn on without the engine running, including instrument display etc. Then push the start button with a pedal depressed and it starts ok. That front bonnet is easily accessible, just 2 or 3 screws just below the windscreen and up it pops. In fact I think there is a tool in that bag in the boot. It’s worth it to get in there because that area is susceptible to dirt and moisture ingress. Cheers colin

Exactly why I bought a Cayman. Much as I’d have loved an Emira.

I have a 2000 S1 Exige with s/c Honda
Owned it for 13 years Loads of fun never serious!
Very reliable, the old ones are the best!
Emira looks pretty, I could buy one, but won't.

another reason why my Cayman 4.0 GTS was the way to go....look....we all want to love Lotus. But they DON'T care. Once you realize that they forced the Emira out without full development, and then had to 'break the molds' because they are going all EV next year, you have a lame-duck car. No further work is going in to fixing the thing. It's pathetic, and I hope that their bet on EVs pays off. So far, the answer is 'no', as Porsche just admitted. My Cayman, BTW...runs every day, never an issue.

I have one. Owned it for 9 months. I was expecting some issues given this is a new car and there are thousands of parts, and I've been ok with it given the car is under warranty, so I expect any potential issues to be fixed. Nevertheless, I have had Zero issues and have not visited the dealer since delivery. Best sports car I have ever own (owning P cars, etc). I'd much rather drive this exciting car and expect some potential issues (fixable; the drive train is super solid) given its a new model, than a than a boring (to me) cayman which is its direct competitor.

Looks like Todd from the EverydayDriver channel had the no-start issue that you described on a recent road trip.
I’ve not had the issues that you’ve described, but a few times now I’ve had limp-mode engage citing an ESC fault. A simple engine off, restart, solves it, but it’s an annoyance.

Sticking with my Evora GT. Too many Emira owners with issues.

Difficult one this - you buy a Lotus specifically because it's not the 'snoozfest' ownership experience that you can get from so many different car brands. My own experience (27 years of ownership) is that you need to find someone who really knows what they're doing to look after the car. In my case it was an independent specialist (my experience of main dealer was dire). I also think that modern Lotus has tried to go up the ladder to a premium level and don't really have the support or experience of customer service required for that, even though the cars look great and go very well.

My issue with the engine cover replacement is colour matching the rest of the car. Hethel Yellow has some variants, and so without blending into adjacent panels, it could show up in different lighting conditions.

I'm so glad a drive a Porsche 718 Boxster!

He forgot to mention that occasionally the steering wheel falls off although strongly bolted to the rack and pinion flange, but not to worry because Lotus will replace the steering mechanism for free, and that is incredible customer service from them. Oh and final thing, the front skirt can possibly detach from the nose cone and wrap around the entire front window which can fully obscure your view, so they have designed a workaround where the skirts when they detach split in two and fall away on either side of the window minimizing any driver blindness. The skirt issue they charge a fee for as they have to saw the nose skirt in half and then clamp it together again with velcro

You could be describing my last two Evoras .Life is too short.

Sounds like this particular car is a bit of a dud. Maybe that`s why it was sold cheap. Ive had my Emira for over a year now, and not a peep of a problem showing up. I also know personally several other Emira owners and they report the same. Sorry your experience has not been the same.

I just cannot believe that you are enjoying the ownership proposition or even trying to big up its plus points. This is a disgrace of a car and brand and manufacturing process! And is just typical of the 'British car company" that was Lotus although of course it is now really Chinese. How comes nothing has changed in decades? It is a stunning looking car no doubt, but who cares? That is superficial. It is the deeper stuff that matters.

I don't care, I want one. I love that car. Stunning car but a track day special. People need to expect track car and evolving. They need to race these things.

Bloody hell I thought seriously about getting an Emira, but sod that after watching this. Loved my S1 Elise 20 odd years ago, it was no trouble at all and often thinking it, maybe I should buy one of them for a fraction of the price.

When this first launched I seriously considered getting one. However I thought I'd wait (being a Lotus, which is an acronym for ''Loads Of Trouble Usually Serious''!) to see if there were any 'teething troubles' and I'm so glad I did!

It's a Porsche 718 4.0 GTS for me now! 🤔🤔🤨🤨
