Hollister Hills SVRA - Truck HIll
Demonstrating Various traction aids on a difficult hill climb. Though the ATRAC equipped LX 470 has made it up this hill in past weekends, the fine, powdered dirt and loose under soil was a challenge this day.

Atrac only works when the speed limit is very low. Also you should not floor it when using atrac. It can be very effective. I have seen cases where it outperforms rear lockers.

I've made it up that hill with open diffs plenty of times. It depends on the conditions on the given day, but tires and momentum play a big part.

It looked like the vehicle with F/R diff also had the advantage of better tires for the terrain?

The locked 100 did have the advantage with tires over the other two... what you didn't see is my 100 with Duratracs not make it either.  Today the lockers ruled. other days the unlocked 100's have made it up that.

VERY few places in Arizona (a dream state for wheelers) where an H1 will equal let alone outdo my Cruiser(s). They high-center 24/7 in the tough stuff...and they don't fit. But they weren't designed for that either.

I always laugh when people think atrac is as good as lockers. No electronic system will fully mimic hardware. I own a Lexus GX460 and a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. The Lexus rules pavement and comfort factor but the Rubicon rules anything off-road. You cannot beat 4-LO with a 4:1 transfer case with front and rear lockers.

I just throw a set of chains on the front end. Need for lockers eliminated.

Your crazy. They can't fit most of the places my yota can get I to. That goes for full sized trucks as well.
