i feel you're somewhat swayed by nostalgia; the latter 2d worms are a lot better with more arsenal, better controls, graphics and overall variety in gameplay.

I miss the sea of fire from this version, the worms sizzle when they fall into it.

Yes if you mean by pass the controller to the next person, u get the worm select screen and u choose how many human controlled worms such as 1up 2up 3up 4up, all the others are so controlled depending difficulty u need to go to worm options to see how hard they can be to beat.
