It's awesome because you can play an arp going forward and backward on the fret board. On e string, E shape goes forward G shape goes backward, on A string A shape goes forward C shape goes backward. Rooted on the D string the D shape goes forward and the top half of the E shape goes backwards.

I always found the caged system too complicated for improv but the root method makes so much sense! damn never thought about it this way, thanks for the insight, i learn so much from your lessons ❤❤

Dude! It's that easy! With a little forethought, I can now jam with someone who just strums on the open chords and I can do the same, just on the upper register. Brilliant!

I never understood the caged system really i always just referred to the chords as inversions but i guess it doesnt matter what name you call it its the concept that really matters.
