"Flower of Scotland" (Scots: Flouer o Scotland, Scottish Gaelic: Flùr na h-Alba) is a Scottish song, frequently performed at special occasions and sporting events as an unofficial national anthem of Scotland.

The song was composed in the mid-1960s by Roy Williamson of the folk group the Corries. It was first heard publicly in a 1967 BBC television series.[1] The words refer to the victory of the Scots, led by Robert the Bruce, over Edward II of England at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. Although there is no official national anthem of Scotland, "Flower of Scotland" is one of a number of songs which are used, along with the older "Scotland the Brave".

Thank you for sharing the most beautiful anthem ever written. I live in Edinburgh as a Hungarian and i have nothing but respect to this country which is kinda like a fairy tale. I am Cymraeg. I always sing this in gaelic at the rugby games and in the pubs. The look on the scottish faces ....scotland take note of a cymraeg proverb: cenedl heb iaith Cenedl heb galon. Translated 'a nation without its language is a nation without its heart '

Both my parents were Scottish and moved down to London before I was born. I have not lived in Scotland but I nevertheless regard Scotland as “home”. Did not have the opportunity to learn Gaelic and don’t understand the structure of the language, but this version of Flower of Scotland is stunningly beautiful. I wish I could hear more of these singers.

We welsh refer to Scotland as Y Alban. Makes sense you call it alba. 😎
