Transportation in Animals and Plants Class 7 Science CBSE - Components of Blood

In this video we will learn about Components of Blood
Red Blood Cells: These are also called erythrocytes. Most of our blood consists of red blood cells. The cell gets red color due to pigment called Haemoglobin. When blood passes through lungs, haemoglobin binds with oxygen.
The blood carrying oxygen is called oxygenated blood. It is carried to all body parts where it is utilized mainly for energy production.
White Blood Cells: These are also called leukocytes. These cells make very small part of the blood, however these are very important for protecting the body from diseases. There are different white blood cells. Monocytes - breaks bacteria, Lymphocytes - create antibodies to fight with pathogens, Neutrophils - kills bacteria and fungi and digest them, Basophils - identifies the threat and produce chemical for alerting immune system about an attack, Eosinophils - destroy parasites and cancer cells.
Platelets: These are also called thrombocytes. When blood vessels get injured, they quickly accumulate at the ruptured area and forms a mesh so as to prevent the loss of blood. This is called coagulation or blood clotting.
Plasma: It is the largest component of the blood. It helps to carry blood cells, waste and nutrients such as proteins, fats, salts, water, sugar as well as hormones and other chemicals to the part of body that needs them.
