There are three main types of blood vessels: arteries, veins, and capillaries:
Arteries
Carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to the rest of the body. They are the thickest and strongest blood vessels, with muscular walls and high pressure.
Veins
Carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart from the body. They are thin-walled, elastic blood vessels that are closer to the surface of the skin. Veins have low pressure and move blood in an upward direction.
Capillaries
The smallest blood vessels, which connect arteries to veins. They are found within tissues and allow for the exchange of substances between the blood and tissues. Capillaries supply nutrients to tissue cells and remove waste.
