I have this exact same bin.
I used two dowels same length as the battery and a couple of little screws. Soldered the wires to the screws and taped excess to the dowel for strength. Has been working flawlessly for 3 mths.

Thanks! we have had this trash can for a couple of years now and just in the last 6 weeks it's starting to eat the batteries about every ten days.

Thanks for your video. Worked great for me. Had a box of spare adapters and found a 9v. Soldered the wires in. This is a simple fix and saves lots of batteries.

I have the newer version of this trashcan. 2nd set of batteries died a month after install. When I opened the unit to connect the wires of my AC adapter, I saw the negative terminal end of the battery compartment had corroded and disconnected. I used a 9v 850mA adapter and it works fine. My adapter was mislabeled and I had the negative and positive reversed, but once I fixed that, it works great. Thanks for your video.

i had the same problem with my garbage can. It would drain my battery within 2 days and the lid wouldn't open, even though there were lights. I then soldered a 9V-500mah power adapter to the battery connectors at the bottom of the lid similarly to this video. It is now working great and no more need for batteries. Also fixed the problem of the lib not being able to open.

Thanks, it works. Less than 5 minutes and done. I spent 35 mins. total, that’s 30 mins arguing with someone who kept insisting just place the wires wherever and then me following directions then it only took 5 mins.

I did something very close to this and it works. However the changes I did was I drilled a hole in the silver plastic part at the top ran a DC Female 5.5mmx2.1mm Power Jack Adapter Plug Pigtail Cable to the battery terminals and sobered it than put hot glue over it so no one could touch it. No lose cables and all hidden, plus can still unplug it from the DC Charger:

I have also the same problem on my electronic trash bin, batteries last about 3 months (4x AA). Little adapter saves the world!

Dude thank you so much for your video! I love this trash can but I think at this point Ive spent more money on batteries than I even paid for the damn thing lol Im gonna definitely try something similar to this.

Worked with 5V charger that I already had too! Thank you!,

Replace the batteries with two dowel rods. You can use thumbtacks to hold the wires more securely.
The batteries will eventually corrode.

Totally unrelated question. What did you use to take the video? Quality is pretty good.

Dangerous fire hazard. If those foam insulators fail you will send charge to non rechargeable batteries causing them to explode. Remove batteries. Solder connections to battery contacts. Use only two contacts in battery bay. Disconnect jumper between battery rows so u dont get a short.

I went a step further, opened it up (hint: one screw is behind the sticky label), installed a 9v inlet socket in the trashcan casing for a 9v transformer to plug into it (and it had a bonus feature that this plug switches over to let the batteries power it when the transformer isn't plugged in), and it worked perfectly testing it on the kitchen table. I soldered all the wires inside permanently, put it back together, put it in the kitchen trashcan spot, plugged it in ... but nothing. Pulled out the transformer plug (so it worked on batteries) and it worked ok. Plugged back in the transformer plug to try again, nothing.

I opened it up to see what was wrong (thinking the transformer wasn't providing enough power), measured the voltages, and discovered in my rush to get it working (not as pieces on the table), I mixed up the positive and negative from the transformer input, and that must have blown one of the drivers for the motor, and I learned the circuit does not have any reverse voltage protection - like a diode across the power rails.

So now my trashcan motor cannot open it. It shuts it ok, and senses motion, etc. I can manually open it and it stays open, then press close and it activates the motor to close it, but it just doesn't provide any power to the motor to open the lid when sensing motion or when I press the open button.

Now I'm looking for one which is designed with a 110v connection (or transformer doing what I did ... but correctly).

I did a 9 volt .2 amps. It works great but is faster than it ever was. Lid goes up fast and down fast. Have to throw your trash in quickly. I tried a 5amp transformer and The lid goes up slower and not quite all the way. Still trying to find a sweet spot. Has anyone else had this happen?

Does amp matter? I just installed a plug 9v. It worked at first when i tested it. Then transfered to another location ...plugged it in but wont turn on anymore.

Mine worked well for about the first year. Now it won't open/close even though I've changed the batteries several times. Waste of money.

i think something eternally happened to mine. it snapped and now it won’t go up. is there any way this can be fixed?

Have you had a chance to upgrade to the 2A power supply yet? I'm a little leery of adding DC power to a circuit with 6 batteries. I'm worried about those batteries overheating or exploding. If you have any new tips based on your experience, it would be great to hear them.
Also, do you know of the brand/model of the trash can? It seems a lot of the touchless trash cans that come up in a google search look different, and I have the same one that you have.
