I was 19 years old parking cars in NYC at the Lincoln center theater. It was the mid to late 70's. I was was in college with little or no money. I get handed a ticket for a car. Jaguar sedan. I bring it up and who's standing there to get the car. Buddy Hacket. I used to get maybe a quarter or fifty cents tip. He gives me a ten dollar bill. I was shocked. I asked him if he would sign it for me. He said sure but now you won't be able to spend it. I told him I was going to keep it. He reached into his pocket and pulled out another one. He said now you can spend this one. I'm in my sixties. I still have the signed one.

We watched Johnny Carson every night. It was just what we did, and Laughed our butts off, before we went to sleep. Never even dreamed of the time when these funny people would all be gone. So glad to have a new generation have the ability to see why laughed so hard and miss them so much.

Buddy, Johnny and Ed would ALWAYS make you smile and laugh no matter how bad your day was. Add Don Rickles to the mix and all hell broke May they all RIP...

I met Buddy at a hotel lounge near Duke University years ago. Within 5 minutes. He had the whole room in stiches.

He telegraphed the punch line from a couple miles away, but he still sold it. Comics played by entirely different set of guidelines than the "observational comedians" that came in after the Borscht Belt comics ran out of steam.

But there was one man who bridged the gap: Rodney Dangerfield.

Few jokes are so good or told so well that they are still funny when you know the punchline.

I saw this when it aired. I was 15 and have repeated that joke ever since. I loved when he was on Carson so I could get some new jokes to share at school!
