that's why it is called android story. they showed it because some people was thinking it will not have the normal android features. just as of now, they didnt showed, or mentioned that it can be used as normal android device so some people thought it will just use its core so it can run the games

I wouldn't say home consoles are withering away. The wii, 360 and ps3 sold 250 million units in a matter of years. But the phone and tablet industry is quickly growing. I wouldn't be surprised if the 9th gen consoles were something like the razer edge.

I started writing an aggressive reply, but you were agreeing with me. I've been awake for too long lol. I had to re-read your comment. I fully agree with you.. and the tegra 4 chip is coming to smartphones in the short future.. this would've been a pretty cool product like 5 years ago..

I agree with the statement you made with the PS Vita. A price drop from 249$ to 199$ would do it wonders. Include a memory card too. And start introducing more games as well (which Sony is). Sales may increase alongside the PS4, but it's too early to decide if the handheld is a failure. 3DS sales look like it will surpass DS sales, PS Vita isn't looking like it will surpass PSP sales, but it's early in the cycle. There's time for change.

Just less than a week left before we find out whether or not Sony takes the steps it needs to take in order to be successful on the portable front. What they announce or won't announce will determine if I buy a Vita this year, or in one or two years. I already have a copy of Soul Sacrifice (for the pre-order bonuses) ready, so I'd personally prefer if they took an aggressive approach this year....

They also have those controllers that let you mount your smartphone into it, and it looks just like the nvidia shield. The two things that i can give the shield, is that its a nice controller and has the tegra 4, but those are just around the corner for smartphones which will just make the shield obsolete..

That's correct. They don't expect to sell a lot, and that's fine with them. They're not afraid to try something new. Back in 1993, the idea of a standalone graphics chip was absurd, because the CPU did everything. And NVIDIA pushed GPU out on to the market in a few years and became one of the dominant players.

They're trying to do the same thing all over again, except now with mobile. Mobile gaming is taking off while portable console is withering away, and they already have a headstart.

I like the multifunctionality of it, while being a gaming device, and with android it has some open source potential
Maybe a detachable screen would be nice, so while you read it's like a phone or small tablet in your hands with the gamepad out the way.
I think that the PSP has a great form factor
But imagine if you had maybe these Wi-Fi base stations that had PC games that you could stream to the device, like a mobile gaming internet cafe'. Maybe there's a big future for this

I think the screen on this should be able to flip around 180 degrees like a convertible laptop. Then it would be EPIC!

So what we learned from this video: When you already own a smartphone, you won't need Nvidia Shield.
Pro marketing tip: If you want to sell a mobile gaming device, show the games, not all the things you already can do on your much cheaper smartphone.

The thing is how much does a smartphone with similar processing power cost? It also has a console grade controller along with neat sound system. All that for $349. The Tegra 4 is considered 6 times faster than Tegra 3.
