I know a veteran ruby on rails guy... he is close to be a millionaire with that with just working ( contracts ) with it.
The key to productivity with a framework is knowing the API. The language is not the big part of it. The language you can learn in one month. Doing actual commercial application with the API takes more time.

As someone that doesn't really like PHP all that much, it was the first back end language I learned many years ago, and I can't deny that it is extremely effective and you NEED to know it for web development.

I think PHP has some bad reputation not because the language itself is bad, but because a large part of the PHP code out there is written by juniors. I recently found out that the ratio of experienced programmers is lower for PHP than other languages. That's why people tend to associate PHP code with bad code, but that's just prejudice.

Hi Stef, I did 7 months of JavaScript doing tutorials and working on small projects. But one thing I had a really hard time to wrap my head around with JavaScript was OOP. I wish I knew this, but I wish I started with PHP first. Because I think PHP is so much easier to pick up and learn. PHP is even easier to learn for OOP. PHP is such an easy language to learn and pick up. At the moment I plan on going full stack with PHP and JavaScript learning Laravel with Vue. Thank you for your video I would have never understood PHP and believed all the negative hype about PHP if I never heard it from you first about how useful PHP is when looking for work.
Love JavaScript but why is everyone learning the MERN stack? I see so many jobs available for PHP.

Comparing programming languages is like comparing apples and oranges, coming to performance it doesn't matter unless you are building the next facebook or Amazon

um ofc javascript is better, one language to rule them all, and not just web dev, mobile dev, and OS dev even. php can't even be a general purpose language when javascript totes can.
