Man. This maneuver is a definite quantitive regression. Thanks!

The amount of work you're doing to improve FSD is underrated. Definitely grateful for the work. It can for sure be dangerous. There were a couple times on that drone footage I started to hold my breath. Stay safe man. Happy holidays

One step forward. Two steps back. Sometimes that’s the way it will go. Onward to 10.9

Thank you for your testing effort and comments. With FSD it’s essential for everyone’s safety that we document performance limits. Excellent job!

Thanks for another well made realistic video.

you are right that was potentially dangerous. Hate to think what less attentive drivers would do.

Mr Cook, you deserve a HUGE shoutout for putting your life in danger doing these tests. I really hope Tesla is listening and address this issue. Thank you Cook for your persistent effort

Great work with superior camera views - both the 360 camera on the car as well as the drone views - your videos are the best of the best, Chuck! Too bad the unprotected left turns are still so problematic, but I think Tesla WILL nail this down in the next couple of months - I've been testing 10.8 on our local roads and have seen definite improvements - we don't have anything that resembles your infamous "Unprotected Left Turns" series of videos - but thanks for all the dedication to helping to solve this very tough problem - looking forward to the day when you score a 10 out of 10 perfect unprotected left turns, even under tough traffic conditions, where it even learns how to use the center divider just like a human ... you're the best and I hope the FSD Beta Team gives you a lot of credit for helping to solve this most difficult of maneuvers - thanks again!

Just received the FSD Beta download. Thanks for your great videos, esp the 2 with the release notes and captured controls - like going to FSD School.

Not to make the other FSD youtubers feel bad but your videos are the best :) several others are good too.
It's rolling out into traffic even though the visualization is showing cars approaching so it would seem to be a failure of the decision logic, not just perception failure. But there is the possible issue that the 'programming2.0' driver has its entirely own perception and what's being shown is not used at all which makes it harder to determine where the issue is.
I also wonder if looking to the left, if it actually has a clear notion of obstructions, the fence, the pole, the branches and when it has a clear view. Because it will need an absolutely clear sense of that, it can't just be a drunken haze of maybe. Because visual obstructions at various corners can vary tremendously this might be a very difficult notion requiring an impossibly vast training set to ensure any kind of flawless reliability. It's not clear to me if they are doing a pure programming2.0 black box figure it all out yourself or if they are trying some kind of hybrid, mixing in the information we see in the visualization. Or another kind of hybrid.
A nuance to it could be that this type of intersection doesn't exist in california, so much less robust from limited exposure.
btw regarding errors during change to routing, it could simply request a routing from where it will be 6 seconds in the future because the routing algorithm isn't meant for a car in fast motion.

great video - and excellent camera views -- especially from from the drone.

While a human can choose to use the median, there remains the risk that a car from the right could suddenly decide (without signalling) to use the median itself to turn left. This could leave you stranded, blocking oncoming traffic from the left and you with nowhere to go.

An experienced driver does a risk assessment based on the speed of the vehicles and historical knowledge of how often cars from the right make a left there.

If I was copiloting a learner driver at that junction I would probably tell them to wait for it to be clear both ways, and bail out to the right if the traffic was too busy.

This is hands-down THE best test scenario I’ve seen anywhere, I suspect that when FSD finally masters this it will be nearly finished.

FSD needs DOJO to develop and streamline the logic. We won’t have L4 much less L5 without it. This test is a perfect example of how slow manual training by the FSD team really is. Thanks Chuck for your efforts to test this.

Looks like 10.8 is a step back, at least with unprotected lefts. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family Chuck, and that for all the great testing and videos you've done.

Unprotected lefts is just one small part of a huge complex system. I drove 10.8 for a few hours tonight and there are many improvements and also some regressions. Things that stood out to me in the pros column were less waiting at intersections after it becomes clear. Fewer and less intense phantom breaking incidents, and in two incidents it didn’t break for partially visible stop signs that were meant for drivers on a different road that it has always struggled with. A con I noticed at a rolling intersection was it veered away from the direction before turning, behavior that was common in 10.1-.3. It had been better for several weeks. Cant be upset or disappointed, just keep driving it and reporting the problems and help them improve the system
