The drone has a GPS receiver in it, the controller has no GPS! The only reason the drone knows where the controller is is because the controller gets its position from your cellphone and transmits it to the drone. The same for the home point, The controller transmits it to the drone

The controller shows that the drone has 32 satellites in view. What do you mean no GPS? Turning off the controller doesn't turn off the drone's built-in GPS.

So I recently bought the mini 3. I live outside of Chicago in the suburbs and just want to fly high and have fun and get cool shots. Should I buy the mini 3 pro and return my mini 3? This is my first serious drone. I had a 50$, 100$, and 200$ drone set throughout the summer to essentially rc toys. I want to have the features of the mini 3 pro like obstacle avoidance and the other things, but it’s 400$ more. What should I do.
