Fat Joe isn’t the only rapper who holds JAY-Z’s rhymes in high regard. On Sunday (January 23), Jay Electronica heaped high praise of his own on Hov’s pen game — specifically, one of his lines from their “Shiny Suit Theory” collaboration.

" get yo weight up not yo hate up, jigga man is diesel when I lift the eight up" only refering to him picking up a 38 special! But Shack (diesel) picking up Kobe (8) after winning a championship.

"Always knew I was a prophet but I couldnt find a decent Job" Job was a prophet. It's subtle. It went over literally everyone's head.

Hands down...the best line ever was,
"I know this game got valleys and peaks,
expectation for dips,
For precipitation, we stash chips hardly", Can I Live (Reasonable Doubt)

He's saying that he knows the crack game has its highs and lows (valleys and peaks). And that it will surely come to an end (expectation for dips). Yet we still don't save money for a rainy day (for precipitation we stash chips hardly).

No one has ever complicated a simple saying in rap like that ever

"I'm not a businessman, I'm a business, man!"

That's one of Jay-z' best double entendres, because simplicity is the highest degree of sophistication.

There is no greatest hip-hop double entendre. There are too many lyrics, too many songs, too many languages, too many words, and context actually matters too. What applies to some, may mean very little to others.

"D'evils" is a masterclass of double entendres and the second verse probably my favorite verse by Hov. "my hand around hee collar feedin her cheese she said the taste of dollars was shitty so her fed her fiftys. about his whereabouts i was convinced i kept feeding her $ til her shit started to make sense (cents, scents)."

"throughout my junior high years it was all friendly but now this higher learning got the remy in me..."

Thee hardest top 25 hardest Jay a lines
I'm so far ahead of my time, I'm 'bout to start another life
Look behind you, I'm 'bout to pass you twice
Back to the future and gotta slow up for the present
I'm fast, niggas can't get past my past
How they propose to deal with my perfect present?

Neither of those are Jay's best double or even triple entendre.

I father, I Brooklyn-Dodger them
I jack, I rob, I sin
Aw, man—I'm Jackie Robinson
'Cept when I run base, I dodge the pen

I feel like if he did not say Jackie Robinson after that, not many people would have caught that. Quite clever.

Great to see people elevating Jay's lyrical ability. Too many "real hip-hop heads" claim he's nothing but a commercial bubblegum rapper that doesn't belong in the room with other great lyricist.

" Outside Jay workin', now watch how quickly I drop 50." Best jay z triple entendre EVER.

1. Basketball reference. Outside jay working. Meaning three pointer. Watch me score 50 points.

2. Dope dealer reference. Selling crack outside, now watch how quickly I sell 50 units.

3. Rap beef reference. Watch how quickly I "drop" 50 Cent.

“ Most kings (... get their heads cut off)
With the same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Shit, that's only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
See Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas
See Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide”

Probably one of the greatest verses hov has said. If you look at all the people he speaks on and how in their success they were killed. Look at how successful they all became and the same love the world gave them, the world quickly turned their backs on them

It appears that people are confusing "entendres" with "word play"

That selling is a sin, if you don't offer new ways to win

Or out of water, most important thing for him is to swim"

I been looking to see if anyone mentioned it but no one has. His verse on Freeways What We Do Song has one of the dopest triple entendres

“You don’t wanna witness shit, we squeeze hammers mayne/ bullets breeze by you/ like Louisiana mayne

Bullets as in from a gun but also like a bullet football pass from Drew Brees, the New Orleans Saints QB at the time, AND then “by you” also a play on New Orleans/Louisiana being called the “bayou”

I explained double entendres to my wife recently and it blew her mind. She listens to rap music with a new ear.
