We were on oil and an ASHP is the best thing we could have bought (in 2015). With the government grant that was available for install and c. £350 per quarter over 7 years it definitely worked out as a great option economically in the long run for us. I do realise the grant has just stopped and also the RHI incentives have dropped but would still recommend it despite the initial install costs, especially if off-grid like us it's the only way to go and ongoing maintenance and running costs are much lower than gas or oil.

Is it true that with an air source heat pump one radiator must not have a thermostat on it?

in the U.K. changing from a gas boiler to an air source heat pump is illogical.
They certainly are not effective for the average British house and their theoretical 'efficiency' is a myth. (Basing it on electrical units as the source of energy is wrong, divide by two at least as generATion, transmission and distribution losses are at least 50%). As electrical unit cost are high and can only get higher with our government's dreadful generation plan, gas is by far the most effective and economical way for domestic heating.
Nor do they reduce CO2 emissions as due to how the grid works they are ultimately powered by gas anyway, with some help from coal.

Someone is trying to reinvent the wheel here. The best solution is a fan heater, which contains a heated coil and creates warmth immediately. Fan heaters have been around for years. I bet they're a lot cheaper than this reinvented nonsense

It is still not worth the bother unless you are a tree hugger and want a Atomic Power Station on your door step.
