Today, we view fast food as a cheap, quick, and unhealthy alternative to a nice home-cooked meal. Many look down upon this option, but in some ways, it’s an improvement over what people ate in the past. Believe it or not, fast food goes back a lot farther than you would have imagined. In fact, instances of fast food can be traced back to medieval times.

If you think today’s quick-service franchises offer some unhealthy eats, just be thankful you’re not living in the Middle Ages. Curious to know how bad it was? This is the truth about the dangers of medieval fast food.

This is the only video I've watched on medieval history in quite a while that covered a topic I had genuinely not even heard of or really considered. Good job, Grunge.

Having to collect wood and build a fire just to get a cup of coffee makes me happy to live in the modern age. I drink a lot of coffee. That said, I've camped out and even baked bread from a makeshift "oven" I built out of river rocks next to the campfire. I was completely surprised when it turned out perfectly, and realized campfire cooking is addictive....nothing gets your appetite going like watching food look and smell delicious as it gets done. My mother grew up poor in the 30s, and said they were always skinny because there were no fast food, high calorie places, and that ice cream was too expensive for them. They mostly lived off sandwiches or cheap ground beef...anything that made a soup or stew could feed more people. She used to constantly remind us of how lucky we were to get steak all the time, but we had no reference of poverty by the time we were growing up and had no idea what she was talking about. They worked very hard to do better and get ahead, but food stayed a huge preoccupation with both my parents. My dad LOVED getting bags of groceries. To him, that was success, being able to eat whatever you liked!

We lived in turn of the century houses, drove 30 year old cars, lots of hand me downs . But mom was a great cook and we ate well. With gardens, fruit trees and berries also. Fast food is not good, to much fat, salt, crunchy bread. Chinese food is good, enjoy that alot. But the foodies always wanting more ....

Growing up in my town in Ohio there was one McMexicans in my town ( on the other side ). Now there are dozens and you can see it in the waistlines of those living there. I only remember one fat kid growing up and compared to those today he was barely plump
