I was hugely disappointed that they didn't mention anything about SQ42, not even a teaser. The hype they were putting out there felt like they were about to make huge reveals and show us huge advancements regarding gameplay, all the systems, alien races and things that most players have been anxious to hear, but it just felt like an 8 hour summary of what they've been telling us already these past years but explaining it again like we are 5 years old, with nice graphics and eye candy. Anyway, pretty clouds.

What will we say in 10 years when we are at the same point? In server tech.

Since mining is quite fleshed out, we should just have mining missions. Mine something exotic metal at a designated spot that's contested with waves of npc. Pretty stupid not to add missions to the most fleshed out mechanic of the game

I expected little and felt a bit disappointed that we were bombarded with theory crafting and concept art. This is the opposite of what we wanted to see. Gameplay and tangible progress with server technology. Also, no SQ42 and ToW. What a joke.

Didn’t look like a traditional mission to me. Looked more open ended where you can just show up at an outpost and trigger these events without accepting some contract from the mobiglas or mission giver. Entirely driven by reputation and personal objectives, thus the various scenarios they showcased.

It was a pretty big departure from the 'big in-person event' that they've done previously.
I disagree about it being a disappointment. It's literally what we've been asking for them to give us for years. There wasn't any S42 info AT ALL (ok that's disappointing), there wasn't a flashy keynote address... but other than that, they presented a lot of good info on the progress they've made, and where they stand now. It was much more technical this year. There was a lot of rambling, and they could have done with a bit more scripting (it was pretty scripted). About the only thing they didn't provide is a timeframe... but I wouldn't expect them to do that. They were very transparent. They got rid of the theatrics, they didn't let CR give a bunch of extra promises/new stuff. *They let the developers and the people actually doing the work, talk about their work.* If they didn't talk about something, that means it's not being worked on; they literally have nothing to contribute to those topics (sorry). "CitizenCon" isn't really the right name.... it was more of a company-wide progress report. In that lens it was very successful. They gave answers... I think the disappointment some people have is that they didn't get the answers they were looking for.

I appreciate your and many others comments and criticism. I was annoyed by no SQ42 info, Theaters of War absence, and some of the talk pieces could have been shorter.
All the above being said, I really enjoyed myself and got a lot out of many of the presentations. I did wonder if this was in-person that this would have been much more exciting and packed with much more interesting information and gameplay...the nature of live shows.
Anyways, thanks for taking the time to explain your observations and criticism which was very valid.

Cheers Mike, as always insightful 🍻

I was not hyped by CitizenCon and I was not disappointed. It was meh.

I canceled my subscription immediately after this Citizencon and refuse to buy anything else until the game comes out.

No update on where SQ42 is, No update on where ToW is, No update on where server meshing is, no transparency. Complete disregard and disrespect for the paying customers who pay their salary's, They went on spectrum and banned people for raising concern. But oh "clap' it was so wonderful mike. Here we are now 10 years later and still 40 man servers. I'm sure the dream will be done any day now, lets just golf clap some more for those bEautiful clouds! and that bEautiful new inventory! I'm sure that will fix the 40 man servers and 10 FPS issues.

Honestly fellas at the pace CIG is releasing content it's going to take at the least another decade, the real question we should ask ourselves is why haven't they finished sever meshing after all this time so far?

Felt very weird listening to the server meshing panel. I would say it was made to be purely technical to avoid giving specific progress info.

I tried watching some of it but i just got boared just a lot of "We can do all this cool stuff when he have this othere stuff" Getting tired of hearing the same stuff.

I like CitCon focusing on the intended experiences of the next year. I just think the demo should've shown more of that, as it didn't even show medical gameplay, funny enough. 8/10.

CitCon has literally always been about the development. Literally. As I'm sure you know, it was originally hosted at the Game Developers Conference. GDC, not E3, so yeah, it's heavy on the behind the scenes aspects. That's not new by any stretch.

Selling, physicalized cargo, and persistent hangars — the main things Tony and co chatted about — are on the Roadmap for the next 6 months. Hell, physicalized cargo is technically coming the very next patch. Seems like frustration made you forget it.

To you credit tho, again, much of the shit that was TALKED about should been part of the demo, even if they had to stage parts of it.

In retrospect, this CitCon showed the heads down, getting the job done, professional and skilled side of the talent at CIG. It was wholly devoid of the hype and ephemeral promises of all past CitCons. It was down and dirty without any marketing spin or flashy distractions. So, taking an honest, objective look at it, it really showed the absolute passion of these devs to “get the job done”. Also, it wasn’t about Chris, it was about the talented team he’s assembled. So, in that light, this CitCon was the most honest and forthright one yet as it showed their maturity as a development company and they needed no smoke and mirrors we have come to expect. Good on them because this could have been nothing but cinematic eye candy as it was all digital. That’s my 2 cents anyway.

Mike, you told us it was not 2016 anymore. At least back then we saw the sandworm in engine. This year was just dudes talking theory craft. It is 2021. If we are not in 2016 anymore, cig needs to do much better.

My level of hope has definitely increased this citizencon. The tech talks finally gave concrete and satisfactory explanations, and Tony didn't bullshit us too much. The gameplay shown is well ahead of what we have now, and is supposedly not a sand worm. One of the better presentations they've ever done for sure.

I watched the first few hours..then resorted to watching the streamers condensed versions later.
Some good stuff, kind of meh but I don't care so much now.
Just happy they get back to working on all the stuff they showed us.

I deleted my Star Citizen Files from my computer a year ago. I will wait for the release. Hopefully I will not die before then. They got my money for a Prospector and a Titan Avenger. I contributed and that is where it ends for me until the game comes out.

It felt like the world's longest Star Citizen Live... It was hardly entertaining enough to keep me zoned in for more than a third of the whole show. And if I'm not mistaken... I didn't hear a damn thing about squadron 42..
