How to make a Disappearing Nine Patch - Free Tutorial

Today I'm making a disappearing nine patch quilt, and using up every one of the bits and pieces from the 20 fat quarters in the bundle. With some creative piecing, and some border fabric, I was able to make two complete quilts from the 20 fat quarters. Each quilt is 57x69.

What a great tutorial, you explained it great, kept it moving keeping it interesting. I usually lose interest with videos that go on and on with added rehashing. You are a great teacher. If we don't understand something we can always rewatch. Again your teaching style is great.

Thanks for the tip on straight of grain and squaring up the FQ in the beginning! Beautiful quilts.

Thank you for this tutorial. I really appreciate your explanation of how to square up your fabric. I could never figure out how to get some pieces to lay flat. Now I know. Thank you!

I enjoyed this video so much! I love watching you sew. Some of the things you say may seem to you to be repeated, but it’s so relevant to what you’re doing. Keep up the good work!

I’ve been watching YouTube videos for 3 years teaching myself how to make quilts. I thought I’ve seen all the tips and tricks. I’ve learned so much watching your videos. Thank you for showing us how to square a fat quarter. What a great idea to make up bits and pieces to make up the last few blocks! Looking forward to learning more from you. Beautiful quilts!

This is great. I have🎉 done the disappearing patch. There are so many different ways to do it. You can get some really awesome blocks. You can also use same material in same position in each block and makes another total different lay out. I did one that you start upper left block leave in place, upper right block turn once, bottom right turn 2 times then bottom left turn 3 times. Really varies the layout.

Excellent use of a fat quarter bundle with no waste and very little leftovers for the scrap jungle.

I too have pieced some of my pieces in blocks, but this us the first time that I've seen an instructor do that. I was pleased to see you do that to use more of your really nice fabric.

This is such a great video. So many YouTube videos don’t bother with squaring fabric. It is hard to teach properly (I’ve tried). Your instructions are so clear! Well done! Loved that you were able to USE THE WHOLE bundle! Congrats on another fantastic video! Sorry I watched this late….not sure how I missed it! XO

I found it very helpful to see the way you cut the fat quarters without losing the grain of the fabric. I always struggle with that.

Very clever way of using all your “bits and pieces “. They’re beautiful.

Excellent tutorial, and outstanding use of nearly every piece of fabric! My only wish is that I liked Kaffe Fassett fabrics. But that teal fabric is a beautiful color!!

I like using the leftover scraps to make a tote big enough to carry the quilt. I use the tote/ blanket in my van for chilly days and for picnics.

I bet if you go back and look at those quilts the "poverty" blocks you made will be hard to see. They blended in so well. They are beautiful quilts and thanks for taking the time to explain each step and how you made such great use of your fabric. You are a really good instructor. Thank you!
