Mother Olga Yaqob was born and raised in Kirkuk, Iraq and lived through four wars. In 1993, as a young laywoman, she started a lay movement called Love Your Neighbor. She invited young men and women from Christian and Muslim communities to be part of this community to serve the needs of the poor in Iraq. In 1995 she established the first order for Religious Sisters in the Assyrian Church of the East in 700 years. Throughout Iraq she was involved in pastoral ministry for college students, youth, and served the prisoners, homeless, elderly, and handicapped of war for many years. The Iraqi government gave her the Humanitarian Award in 1998 for her service to the poorest of the poor. She arrived in the US in 2001 for advanced studies and served college students in Boston. Mother Olga has a BS in Biology and Hematology and Masters in Theology, Philosophy, Pastoral Ministry, a Diploma in Islamic Studies. She is the recipient of numerous honors and awards. Cardinal O’Malley of Boston, entrusted to her the establishing a new Religious Community of Sisters, Daughters of Mary of Nazareth. Faced with multiple cultural hardships and a challenging life from a young age, her journey reveals God’s unconditional love.
