It's the culture we are in for applauding and celebrating mediocracy. Southgate, who we must not forget was a terrible club manager, is the luckiest England ever. Some of his 'in play' decisions have been baffling. Why bring on a defender with 5 mins to go, 3-0 down and knowing how the crowd would react.I am a United fan so I know how bad Maguire was last season but he didn't deserve to be part of that shambles and get booed. That is NOT how you build confidence. Southgate is no worse than McClaren, Erickson, Capello, Hodgson, Keegan, Hoddle or Taylor. The fact is England do not produce world class players but are told that they are.

What I’m seeing and hearing from pundits now is how far they’re going to protect their own. And now their throwing the players under the bus instead of the manager. If this was a foreigner they’d be saying he’s out of his depth and calling for him to be sacked along with the fans.

It's not a new narrative, allot of fans didn't want Southgate in the beginning, then allot of minds were changed after the Italy loss and defensive nature of that finial, so allot of people wanted Southgate gone after Italy. This isn't new, he's a very conservative and defensive manager, who doesn't take any risks

Well, England’s average age was 25, Italy’s 27. And did Simon miss the part where Italy were the most dominant team at the tournament. Most dynamic, most organized, great mix of young talent and veterans, great coach. Beat the number one team in the world Belgium to get there and a very young and tough Spanish side. But ya…England should’ve beaten Italy 🙄. England had to beat Ukraine and Denmark to reach the final. And it took some mighty fine diving to get there.

Regardless of Southgate, England in the past 4 years have lost twice to Belgium, to Croatia and to Italy. England have beaten a Germany side with home advantage but other than that they have always come off short against strong sides in knock out football. This side haven't in tournament knock out games beaten the likes of a Spain, France, Brazil, Argentina yet and other teams are emerging now and entering the top 6 sides in terms of quality and form going to this next WC. England therefore cannot say they should be winning the world cup or that Southgate should have them beating everyone in sight. We were very lucky with the sides we got in the last WC. Southgates tactics are questionable like any other manager who has ever managed England. An example under Robson in 1990; we have a romantic idea that in 1990 we should have won it when in fact we played generally teams below the top 4 ranked sides in the World and struggled through only really playing well in one game which was against Germany which we lost. We did not deserve the WC in 1990. Ultimately England need to start beating the big sides in these games, friendlies pre tournament warm up games etc to really prove and show to everyone they are up to winning a WC and not carrying this idea around that is built on the hype of media and fans than buy into that blind hype.
