Volvo Cars Excellence Child Seat Concept

This child seat concept by Volvo Cars has completely re-imagined how children could travel safely in cars of the future. Shown in the XC90 Excellence, this concept is innovatively designed to make it easier to get the child in and out of the seat without compromising comfort. It also provides a safe rear-facing seating position that brings parent and child closer together, and includes smart storage for vital child accessories. Ultimately, the concept reinforces Volvo’s position as a leader in design for and around the needs of the driver and their most important passengers.

I think it is the best idea I have seen in years. You can have your space and really look out for your baby. Please I want this so much! Thank you Volvo for looking deep for what people want and need. And I know that there is more of us who love your cars and your inovative ideas as much as I do.

Very interesting g concept. I was taught to not have car seat in front area due to front air bags unless absolutely necessary. If anyone can find crash test info, link it for me I'd love to check it out!

Ok but you're not supposed to have a infant carseat in the front because the air bag deploying can snap the seat forward breaking the babies neck. How did Volvo prepare for that? What is their solution? Is there just no airbag in the passenger side?

I bought a Volvo XC90 new back in 2007..V-8 and loaded.  One of the best cars I've ever owned.  Quiet, fast, and very safe.  My favorite part of the car was the drop-dead gorgeous wood steering wheel.  Was rear ended once by an older GM sedan.  All I felt was a thud.  The car which hit me was destroyed, the entire front end collapsed.  My XC90 endured a scrape to the bumper and no structural damage.  Although today, I'm not sure if I'd buy another due to the Chinese ownership of the company.  I don't believe the quality is anywhere near the same.  The child's seat looks a bit gimmicky to me although its good to see innovation.  Possibly the design can be improved upon.

I don't think anyone will semi-permanently remove a whole seat so that a child can have a fancy robot seat.

Can you use your own car seat or does it have to be this one with the model? We do extended rear facing and this convertible seat doesn't look near tall enough to rear face as long as I would like to.

i think rear facing seats for passengers is a good idea. since they are safer for any head on collision.

Amazing idea but I dont know if there is enough of a market to see mass production. I would be great for order but then the car only lasts what 4-5 years max.

I would not be comfortable with my child in the front seat next to me. For safety reasons and just a huge distraction. Crying and screaming and even a cute giggle gets my immediate attention. It only takes a split second with your eyes off of the road for serious damage to happen. I love the idea of a car seat inclusion but keep their cute butts in the back. Also....what happens as the child grows and transitions. Is this a convertible carseat? So many questions.

but what about the airbag...? can you just switch it off? because that's the main reason why parents cannot have their babies in a front seat... I do not see this safe if the baby will suffocate from an airbag in the worst scenario...
