Cool! I haven't been able to solve this problem yet, but I'll try your method!
By the way, you can also use a part from the side of the car (yellow) to attach a small rocket engine to it in a diagonal direction. Then you can make a turn to the right/left, and when used simultaneously, the turns will be self-eliminated, but the downward movement will remain, which will allow the ship to land.

Yeah I put the thrusters on a swivel at the back of my ship. They flew off. So I added 2 swivels and thrusters on the side of the ship. with one thruster facing forward and on the other side of the ship, one facing back. Making the ship turn and not making the swivel break and fly off. Only downside is that I had to use small thrusters to make it work because big thrusters made the swivel break

Just a comment on sandwich build. Though I am sure 3 months later you tried a lot more lol, but anyway if someone else reads... I used simply one ancient floor 16x16, put controllable swivel on it, then another ancient floor 16x16 on top. To lower floor I've added more 16x16 floors in a 3x3 grid, so swivel stayed centered. Then baloons on the corners and edges of the 3x3 area (plus chests, wheels, etc, but that's unimportant for this). On the upper floor of the sandwich, I just added a seat and 4 large thrusters. Having lower part much larger and heavier (due to extra area and stuff on it) you don't have the issue with steering or needing to overcompensate. Where you aim, is where you go (after few moments of inertia). It allows easy braking (lol NOT breaking) as well, just point the opposite direction and use a thruster real short. Landing is awesome as you get used to. Worst part is my build is large so vision is obstructed, but other than that, steering is great. Coupled with few other bits and pieces of advice or what I found by experimenting, works great as my main floating chest carrier and for flying from one village to next. Also, really sturdy, without the need to do the surrounding with planks as in first part of video. Nothing flew off, and couple bad landings early on didn't break anything (well, surrounding trees and rocks didn't survive ;D ). Anyway, thanks for confirming my idea, I was browsing around to see if what I wanted was possible and sure enough found this, then made sandbox world, tried it... And now I've been flying it around for a few days in my main world, just great :)

Nice. Im also working on some mechs and am having problem wigh its durability. Its not even a problem or tension as when the whole thing just touches the ground and is forced to rotate it breaks due to too much pressure.

I made one like your "Sandwich" one. Its a hovercraft, it flies well too, with just 2 big inflatables and 2 small balloons to drift back down...I ALSO added two cannons to the front of it to aid with harvesting, or kicking ass!! Its good fun!!

I always appreciate the research. Did you notice a difference using smaller thrusters versus larger? My idea was to use them for steering and a separate forward thrust.

I just got back onto Lego fortnite after a month of not playing it and they've added the swivel and I just wish that they would go in and make the swivel almost indestructible.

I've had times where my ship is falling down and I pop too many balloons at once and inflate them and then because of the jarring it causes the swivel to explode

Mr kaboom. Neither of my swivels work. An I can not push anything in my survival world. I lost my expert due to the totem bug. So I went to my OG survival to play an neither of the swivel will spin. Can u help me plz?
