"Tie A Yellow Ribbon Around The Ole Oak Tree"
written by Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown (1973)
I'm coming home I've done my time,
Now I've got to know what is and isn't mine,
If you receive my letter tellin' you I'd soon be free,
Then you'll know just what to do, if you still want me, if you still want me.
Tie a yellow ribbon `round the ole oak tree,
It's been three long years, do ya still want me?
If I don't see a ribbon ,round the ole oak tree,
I'll stay on the bus, forget about us, put the blame on me
If I don't see a ribbon `round the ole oak tree.
Bus driver, please look for me `cause I couldn't bear to see what I might see,
I'm really still in prison, and my love, she holds the key,
Simple yellow ribbon's what I need to set me free.
I wrote and told her please tie a yellow ribbon `round the ole oak tree,
It's been three long years, do ya still want me?
If I don't see a ribbon `round the ole oak tree,
I'll stay on the bus, forget about us, put the blame on me,
If I don't see a ribbon `round the ole oak tree.
Now the whole damn bus is cheering and I can't believe I see
A hundred yellow ribbons `round the ole oak tree.

Frank Sinatra is my hero. I would like to play his music loud enough for the whole wide world to hear.

The thing about Frank was he inhabited a song. He didn’t just sing the words. He never changed the tune or the structure of the songs, he just added twirly bits that gave a light and shade to the whole thing. There were a few singers of that era who could really sing and didn’t need electronic enhancement to make it sound good, which the mark of a real singer in my opinion.
Perry Como, Dean martin, Andy Williams, Tony Bennett, Bing Crosby, Sammy Davis Jnr. and (later) Harry Connick Jnr were also able to do this. In later years the only one I can think of that is so at ease singing is Michael Bublé.

I love this song with both Frank or Ray Conniff, I think each one got their own style, but still sounds amazing on both, excelent video, just the best music of the whole world, 70s.

I like this song. This is probably the most listenable version i have found so far. I wish we had this song by Hank, Elvis or Bing.

Great! But Tony Clifton really perfected it.

In the Steve McQueen Western, Nevada Smith, Karl Malden calls him (several times), "Yella". Frank pronounces it the same here, but does say "yellow" at least once. Maybe he had just watched the movie.
