I think prices, even adjusted for inflation, are relative.

Yes, the doll was expensive even back then but still was affordable. Now, today I do believe it would cost over $100.

On another example, I remember, when growing up that I collected Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Back then they sold for $5. Today it would be more or less $15. Today´s they still sell them at $15 so fair enough.
