Top nuclear envoys of S. Korea. U.S. and Japan convene in Tokyo to discuss N. Korean nuclear threat

The top envoys of South Korea, the U.S. and Japan convened in Tokyo to discuss Pyeongyang's nuclear threat.
The three agreed that the regime's provocations must be addressed but left the door open for dialogue.

Seoul's top nuclear envoy Kim Gunn had trilateral talks on North Korea with his American counterpart Sung Kim and Japan's Takehiro Funakoshi in Tokyo, where the three voiced concerns regarding Pyeongyang's nuclear weapons program.
On Wednesday at Japan's foreign ministry, Sung Kim pointed out that the regime's numerous ballistic missile tests are escalating military tensions and threatening the safety of all countries in the region.
He added that the U.S. has reason to believe the North has been preparing for its seventh nuclear test, something the country fears will harm the global nuclear nonproliferation regime and said the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is its goal.
Sung Kim noted, however, that Washington is working to bring Pyeongyang back to the negotiating table, saying the U.S. is ready to talk with North Korea without any preconditions.
Kim Gunn stressed that any provocations from the North will be met with a swift and resolute response... but also left the doors open for dialogue... bringing up South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol's so-called "audacious initiative" of providing the North with economic aid in return for real steps toward denuclearization... ...a plan that will continue to be discussed among the three nations moving forward.
