The Maldives' new president talks about wanting India out | The Conversation | BBC News India

In an exclusive interview with the BBC, Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who won the Maldives presidential election in September, talks about asking India to get its troops out of the Maldives.
Dr Muizzu said that he met the Indian ambassador a few days after his victory and "told him very clearly that every single Indian military personnel here should be removed".

India should similiarly do things in its own intrest like developing Lakshadweep as a cheaper and better tourist destination than Maldives. We are rich enough to subsidize Lakshadweep tourism for 5 years so that the tourists along with FE starts coming to India, instead of Maldives. We also can stop providing soft loans, emergency assistance etc to such thankless countries, in our national interest. Maldives may win short term towing Chinese line but in the long term they will suffer! We should not change our policy even if another government comes to power in Maldives because the thankless population of Maldives elected their current government on 'India out' agenda. Let us not become generous the next time when this country is in trouble!
