Some photo enhancement reveals better details on how this original mud wagon was designed and built. Building and restoring horse drawn vehicles often brings its challenges in determining what was originally correct for each vehicle.

To call yourself a wheelwright is a gross understatement. There is no adequate one word description which combines all your many talents .

Who else has this much knowledge, experience and skill. Must be a dying art. Who else is going to spend 40 years to perfect this level of mastery of their craft.

Once this Mud Wagon is complete, you should recreate the original photo; even if the driver and passengers are dressed in contemporary clothes it would be great to see the two photos side by side! 🙂

Dave, you may have enjoyed sharing this with us. However, I doubt you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Thank you for adding 'insight' into how one would think about the process of recreating a project. This is a fundamental step in the process. It is also potentially the hardest part.

This is so much better than anything that hollywood is capable of producing. I anxiously await the weekly installment of the hit new drama that is Mud Wagon.

Back when I was 10 thru 12 yrs old, living in Eureka CA, there was a couple just down the road that had horses and I was allowed to help feed them. Well what I thought was just a big barn was Full of Wagons, Coaches, Buggies, all completely restored!! So very Awesome to see, and be allowed to board them for rides every so often. That would have been the mid 60s then. 🐎🐎🐎

Like many others I'm really enjoying watching the reverse engineering of this mud wagon. What I find even more remarkable is the fact that, just like the era when this wagon was born, members of the community are sharing their resources and expertise to assist you in completing the job!

It is hard to believe any gum shoe could deduce so many details from such simple clues. Thanks for walking us through process of pulling it all together.

Well who ever is going to be the proud owner of this mud wagon, they are going to have one sweet ride! 👍

After you get that wagon all done, you should get some of your people together to try and re-enact that photo - might be fun.

Ah ha, Inspector Engels, you are a sleuth and master builder extraordinaire. I love Ash wood for wagon building.

With all the schooling that we are getting, it will be great to see the mud wagon when it is complete.

I really enjoy listening to you explain your thought process on figuring out the wagon based on one grainy picture and the remains of the wagon's iron works.

Dave my girlfriend said if somebody shipped that pile of the mud wagon parts to me it would have been burned in the wood stove before i got a chance to see it! Looking good nice detective work! I am sure some of these rebuilds can sure be head scratchers. Because i am sure some parts were replaced in the day with whatever the wagon maker or blacksmith had for spare parts on hand or what they could make with what they had! Looking good!

Dave I knew that you were a great Waynewrite, but also an avid watcher of the detective TV shows like Colombo, and Monk. Just a little humor to add to your remarkable skills. Thanks for the outstanding video.

It would be great if you could get some volunteers to dress and pose for a recreation of the original photo when the buggy is finished. Just a thought. :)

It is a treat to see the research that goes into keeping these vehicles authentic. Your attention to detail is second to none.
