The British war with Turkey was a mess of not planning properly. Racism, false expectations and ignorance of new weapons hurt the British again and again. The first Mesopotamia expedition surrendered, First attacks across Sinai foundered, ship rush of the straits smashed, Gallipoli as described here. Proper planning prevents poor performance!
Not until they had respect of the Turk troops, understanding of new weapons, and proper planning did things work out.

Much appreciation, though repeating narratives about what started WW1, some individual duke contra a more real issue, a thucydian trap of an emerging germany verses an aging british empire, with oil as the new energy, and germany building rail to Bazra from Istanbul to access it, is more reason to sacrifice so many men, than some nonesense about some distant aristocrat. The replication crisis continues sadly thru many fields, like stupid monkeys aping one anothers mistakes or propaganda, human, all too human.
